Eudaldkp 160
Carles Puigdemont Rookie Profile Name: Carles Puigdemont Height: 6' 3'' Weight: 220 pounds Hometown: Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain Position: Center Shoots: Right Team: Saskatoon Wild Carles Puigdemont, the 18 year old prospect coming up from Spain has been gaining attention from the scouts that are already planning for the S65 draft. Carles looks to be what is going to become one of the top prospects for the draft with his drive to improve and his dedication. Let’s move on to his strengths and weaknesses. Strenghts: One of his main strengths is passing, Carles is a natural passer, he has come into the league with a very well developed vision of the rink and he can find teammates and put them in the best positions to score all over the ice. With more than a season to improve, Carles is going to enter the VHL as one of the top threats for assists. But he has always been an offensive-minded center, and as such, he not only focuses on passing but on scoring too. We had the chance to interview him and he said that right now he is mainly training on improving his scoring, and he wants to top the rankings for the S64 VHLM season, entering in the S65 VHL as a nightmare for all goalies. And one of the things that we loved about him is that he only gave us a 10 minute interview and throughout the entire interview he was nervousm because he wanted to go back to training! Puigdemont has one of the highest drives to improve that the scouts have seen in a long time, and that is a quality that all GMs value a lot. Weaknesses: But not everything is perfect about Carles, let’s talk about what we think he needs to improve and what is going to be his biggest barriers to become an all-time great. First of all, we have seen some flaws in his communication. While he is a skilled passer and team-player, he seems to have some problems while communicating on defense, and it looks like, at least right now, doesn’t have what it takes to be a leader. But not everyone in the team has to be a leader! Another aspect that we could criticize about him would be his strength. While he weights a whopping 220lbs, he doesn’t seem to know how to utilize those pounds. He doesn’t have a natural instinct for checking and he will need to work hard on that. And last, although a bit cherry-picky, he needs to work on his English. He comes from the Spanish league and from what we saw and heard in the interview, he is very raw in that aspect. But hey, once he moves to Saskatoon and starts spending a lot of time with his teammates he is going to fix that easily. We think that Puigdemont right now has a very high ceiling, and he looks like he is going to be a first round pick in the S65 draft, but who knows if he has what it takes to play at a high level in the VHL. The Spanish League isn’t as competitive as the VHLM and he will have to adjust to that. With that said, he has what it takes to improve, and while he may have a rough first games in the VHLM, he is for sure going to be a star in the S64 VHLM and one of the top prospects for the S65 draft.
