Seattle was certainly busy once the trade window opened up for the new season, and it seems that it has given goaltender Steven Smyl a new sense of motivation. Last season Smyl did not have a good season. He ended up with a 90.9% save percentage with a GAA of 2.56. Seattle was expected to be one of the top teams in the league last season and almost didn’t make it to the playoffs. They ended up taking the Quebec City Meute to game 7 though, showing that they were just a couple of acquisitions away from being one of the best in the league. Those moves came almost instantly after the playoffs.

Seattle first moved former first-round pick Mikey Blade and GIYGAS to the Riga Reign in return for the young Damon Tyrael. Thrael in his rookie season put up 62 points and has shown a work ethic that will lead him to greatness with the Bears. Tyrael is expected to play the second line this season but there is no doubt that someday he will be leading the Bears’ offense. The Bears then moved a package of picks and Gregory Glass in return for Ethan Osborne and Willie Weber from the Titans. Osborne alone was enough to send the Seattle fanbase into a frenzy, and the acquisition of Weber on defense showed promise for the team going forward.

“I can’t wait to get started next season,” stated Steven Smyl after hearing news of the trades. “Playing with Osborne is something that only a few players can say they’ve done. He’s going to bring a lot of leadership to the locker room and give us one heck of a morale boost. Tyrael is a threat to watch over the next many seasons… and Weber, well I always need someone else to yell at when I have a poor game! The atmosphere with the team right now is at an all time high. I think that Seattle is in for one great season and I’m going to make sure to play my part. We hinted at it last season, but this time around the Continental Cup is ours!”
