Matt 11
"The Norwegian Nightmare"Kristian Stormborn OSLO, NORWAYPosition: Left WingNumber: 36Age: 18Height: 5' 7"Weight: 179lbsHandedness: Right BACKGROUNDKristian Stormborn was born on May 5th, 1994 in Oslo, Norway. He began playing hockey at the age of four and practiced at the local Oslo Spektrum and idolized Norwegian hockey heroes such as Mats Zuccarello, Espen Knutsen, Odin Tordahl and Ole Kristian-Tollefsson. At the age of four, Stormborn was enrolled in his first hockey club and has since grown in the sport of hockey. As he continued to grow older, Stormborn played on club teams which were all well above his age group and excelled in each club despite the age difference. He was always better than the older kids and played a level of hockey that was rare in a diminutive Norwegian-born forward. Stormborn was always one step ahead of the competition, which helped him develop into the player he is today. At the age of sixteen, Kristian Stormborn had it all. He has the determination to make it far and the skill to reach premier leagues all over the world, most notably targeting the Victory Hockey League in Season 38. Kristian Stormborn was drafted in the second round at selection fourty-one of the KHL Junior Draft by HK CSKA Moskow and played one season for the club's minor affiliate in the Vysshaya Liga, THK Tver. Kristian Stormborn had began playing in very well for Tver and earned a call-up to play for his initial draft team, CSKA Moskow of the Kontinental Hockey League towards the end of the year. His call-up proved moderately successful when he was capable of playing fairly well for CSKA Moscow in his short term with the team. He would then learn he wouldn't be resigned by CSKA Moscow due to an international clause that would only allow a select few of players from other countries when he received a call from the Victory Hockey League Players Association who would soon offer Stormborn a one season offer to play in the VHLM in hopes of getting drafted. Stormborn would soon make the move to the minors of the Victory Hockey League where he would soon be drafted by the Bern Royals in hopes to one day make it to the Victory Hockey League as a permanent player. Having been astounded by the news, Stormborn would suit up for the Royals in Season 36 and while not having transitioned well, he would be a solid depth forward for the rather successful team. With a grand total of 23 points (10 goals and 13 assists) in 72 games played, Stormborn would inevitably have second thoughts about his playing career, the Cologne Express had other opinions on the matter as they decided to use their third round selection on the small, yet pesky forward. Thus giving Stormborn one more shot at the big leagues. POSITIVESScoring Ability: Stormborn has been a natural goal-scorer since birth and he continues to take a shoot-first approach to hockey. He is always trying to improve his shot and accuracy which will hopefully allow the forward to make the big leagues off his scoring abilities alone.Physical Play: He may be small, but that never stopped Stormborn. Having been taught that the physical aspect of hockey is very important, Kristian knew he had to incorporate it into his regular play. Having had 96 hits in the VHLM this prior season has to count for something.Skating: Any goal scorer needs good skating ability, which is why Stormborn is very talented within the area. Stormborn was among the fastest skaters in the VHLM last season and he strives on fast paced hockey. He is very small and is capable of getting past a defenseman on speed alone. NEGATIVES Size: Unfortunately for Stormborn, this one he can't quite work on or improve. Size will always be a factor the the small forward and he can't let his lack of height and weight get in the way of playing the game. His size has always affected him in the past and will do the same going forward.Discipline: Kristian Stormborn struggles when it comes to taking penalties. He finds himself in the penalty box often and it really affects the flow of his game. Stormborn needs to spend less time in the box and more time in the offensive zone trying to lead his team. His penalties are never smart and has found himself benched during important games because of it.Attitude: With bad discipline comes a bad attitude. Stormborn has been noted as being a locker room cancer and isn't afraid to talk back at his teammates and coach about how he feels. He is very open-minded and needs to learn that adjusting his attitude will be a positive for him. If he can get an attitude adjustment, he may very well have everything an elite player could ever want possess. VHL Comparison Kristian Stormborn compares to current HC Dynamo forward, Odin Tordahl. Tordahl is quite the goal scorer, which is very identical to Stormborn. Odin also lacks quite a bit in size, yet still manages to hit anything that moves. The physical play style of both players in similar in that while he may be smaller, Stormborn likes the aspect of physicality. They are both very small, speedy players with a knack for the net and bruising bodies. Both players have similar attitudes and find themselves going to the penalty box more often than not. Stormborn is headed down the exact path as his fellow countryman. Norway has two good players on their hands with these two in the arsenal.
