Minnesota Dominates Houston

In a dominating performance, the Minnesota Storm defeated the Houston Bulls by a score of 6 – 0. Both teams entered the contest with a 3-2-1 record and it was Minnesota who was able to push their win percentage over the .500 mark. Denver Wolfe (1g-3a), Chico Smeb (2g-1a), and Divaani Sohva (16 saves, SO) shined for the Storm who struck early and often in this one.

 

By the time the first period ended, Houston had their backs to the wall and never recovered. Just over five minutes into the game, Matthew Kai tallied his third goal of the season to open the scoring. Five minutes later, Bert Meyers scored his first goal of the season. Just 55 seconds later, Chico Smeb made it a 3 – 0 game. Aron Nielsen struck on the power play to bring the first period onslaught to an end. Houston went into the first intermission being outshot 15 – 4.

 

It took just two minutes and six seconds into the second period for the Storm to make it 5 – 0 as Chico Smeb scored his fifth goal of the season and second of the game. In the last minute of the period, Denver Wolfe tallied a power play goal to make it 6 – 0. Minnesota took just seven shots in the third period and Houston’s Owen May stopped them all to keep the score from getting even worse. Houston managed only three shots in the third period, totaling just sixteen for the game. Divaani Sohva made all sixteen saves to record his first shutout of the season.
