David Lindberg came into his rookie season with the Ottawa Lynx. Drafted 41st overall, the Swedish Offensive D man has a lot to prove and so far has gone above and beyond a 41st overall pick.

Signing with Philly last season as a free agent to finish off the season, he played 13 games and had 1 goal and a -9. He also had 14 penalty minutes in 13 games. “ My game was all over the place. I was trying to find my place and my game on North American ice. I’m so used to Sweden, and our rinks and the way we play.” Said David.

This season, a full rookie with Ottawa, he seems to have found his game in full stride. 19 games played, in which he has 8 goals and 10 assists. He is a +18 ( talk about a turn around), and has 10 penalty minutes. As far as league wide he sits 6th among Defenseman in points and tied for 1st in +/- with 18. Overall the 41st pick is showing his value might have been undervalued.

“ I’m not sour at all, I’m just playing as well as I can and making the most of my chances. Hoping that overall the team enjoys having me and sees me as a core player moving forward. As far as the upcoming VHL draft, well, all I can say is I hope my play says everything GMs need to know.”

The Ottawa Lynx are among the elite this season as they are tied with Philadelphia for first with 30 points in 19 games. They are 4 points ahead of both Saskatoon and San Diego. After that it begins to fall off and Ottawa seems pretty safe at the moment.

“ We are happy with our play so far. Having the exact same record as Philly, the team I played a little for last season, is really interesting. It’ll be tight all season I think.” Responded Lindberg to the question asked about how he feels being in a tight race for first with the Reapers, The team he was playing for last season.

“ I may not have been here last season but I know missing the playoffs by 7 points was rough on management, they wanted better, Hopefully this season we can give them everything they are aiming for”

So with a good part of the season still ahead of them, keeping this pace may prove to be challenging but should Ottawa continue, the post season looks promising and David Lindberg looks to be a good part of it.

“ I’m really enjoying my time here. I didn’t know what to expect but I’m feeling more and more like a part of the team and I hope to be for the foreseeable future. That said I really want to be able to contribute to this team this season and into the post season.”

This 4th round pick is proving to be a steal in the later part of the draft and may very well draw unexpected attention in this season VHL draft. Until then Ottawa gets to enjoy this young talent for at least a few more seasons.
