The Halifax 21st were certainly the favorites going into their playoff match up against the number 7 seeded San Diego Marlins, but to sweep in such a dominating fashion was quite the surprise. The Marlins strong defensive core was seen as the one thing that edged out Halifax, the first game said otherwise with Halifax dominating in a 8-1 blowout. In game 2 the Marlins showed a better effort coming back from a 4-2 deficit through two periods, before scoring 3 in the third to tie the game 5-5 forcing OT. Unfortunately for them Centre Trevor Van Lagen of the Halifax 21st scored in OT ending the Marlins chances of taking a game on the road. Heading into games 3 and 4 Halifax's momentum carried over, taking wins in the next two road games 5-3 and 3-2 respectively completing the sweep. As the playoffs continue Halifax now awaits their next opponent, Ottawa currently leads their series 3-1 against Mississauga and are looking to be their next match up in the semifinals.
