Cornholio 182
The Yukon Rush’s fun and momentum-building season came to a sudden halt in the first round of the playoffs. After being as low as #7/8 through the first half of the season, Yukon slowly came together as a team - namely on offense. This chemistry enabled Yukon to finish the season in the fourth seed and with home rink advantage. Then came the postseason and a series against the number five seed Halifax 21st. It would be reasonable to expect that this would be a good series - in the end, it turns out that Yukon would suffer some bad luck in one-goal games and their offensive limitations were on full display as Halifax wound up winning the first round series in 5 games. “It was a tough pill to swallow. It doesn’t matter if you lose in 4 or in 7 games — the pain is still there. Everything that the team worked for collectively over the last two RL months or so and it’s over just like that. And to a team who we were definitely better than too. The pucks just didn’t deflect our ways. I think that Halifax also surprised some of us with their punishing, physical style of play. Aggression is a significant play - but if you execute it right, there’s no stopping you. I know now that I said we would go further in the playoffs than last year. Well technically I was right because my team got swept last year and we made it to five this year. Nothing we can do about it except move on to bigger and better things. I wish the Yukon Rush organization nothing but the best going forward. I also hope that Minnesota ends up winning the whole thing because of my players ties to them from last season.” Link to comment https://vhlforum.com/topic/68383-wsj-on-end-of-season-future/ Share on other sites
