Olynick's Time Coming Soon

To the surprise of, well, not many people around the league, Evgeni Chekhov, starting goaltender for the Cologne Express, announced his retirement. Everyone knew either Chekhov or Blaine Olynick had to have the key to the starting spot for Cologne. With Olynick already reaching VHL-ready status at the beginning of the season, he is now confirmed as the next young goaltender to take over Cologne.

Making himself eligible for the VHLM at the very end of Season 35, Olynick quickly rose above anyone else's expectations for the young goaltender. In a league where all goaltending spots are heavily occupied, some saw this as a road block for Olynick and his progression to the VHL. Olynick himself saw this as just another challenge in the progression of his potentially illustrious career.

After a rookie season of great performances night in and night out with the Bern Royals, the hungry goalie was on most expert's radars at the VHL Entry Draft as highly skilled with a lot of potential. After many weeks of lengthy conversations with Express management, Olynick saw himself fit into Cologne's organization like a glove. With just one more step to take before he reaches the VHL level, Blaine Olynick has been turning heads this season with his dominance of the European Conference.

Through all these positive experiences so far in Olynick's career, what's next, and when? His spot on the roster is his for the taking next season when Chekhov officially retires. Is Olynick truly ready for the skill and speed of the VHL?

Despite playing his absolute best in the VHLM currently, there's no doubt that the skill set of most, if not, all current VHLers is exponentially above most players in the world, a young goalie like Olynick may not be able to do well under the pressure. Cologne fans had a first glimpse at Olynick this pre-season when he started some games against other VHL clubs, coming out with some impressive outings. Speaking about pressure, Cologne, despite being in a country that loves their soccer, also has a soft spot for their ice hockey teams. Since its inception, the Cologne faithful have been very passionate and vocal when the team has been performing below its expectations. Young goaltenders in the middle of a media frenzy are always a car crash waiting to happen.

What might await Olynick in Cologne.

Some might say the Express have enter a rebuild phase, recently trading their stars in Kameron Taylor and Malcom Spud, two players that have been having solid performances despite the team performing poorly. The new locker room leader, David Collier, will have to guide the youngsters coming in next season. With another defenseman in Ron World Peace on the way, there's hope for the future of Cologne when younger guys are getting the push for next season. But will the rookies be able to pull this team out of the deep hole they're in right now? More importantly, will Blaine Olynick survive his first VHL season next year, filling in the very big shoes of Evgeni Chekhov?

Blaine Olynick is like the Littlefinger of the VHL, subtly moving pieces around, slowly getting more and more of what he wants while staying under everyone's radar.  Then all the sudden one day he'll just start causing chaos and wreck everyone's shit and maybe molest a 14 year old.  It's fantastic.

I need to sleep now.

515 words. Despite it's shortened length, it was a solid Media Spot of Blaine and his endeavors heading into next season. Some real good writing here. It flowed well. Good luck next season.
