The New York Americans are barely clinging to their playoff hopes as the VHL’s 68th season nears its conclusion. Their record may be a paltry 25-31-7, but because of the weakness of the Low division, they still have a path to the playoffs with Toronto nine points ahead of them as both teams still have nine left to play. Toronto only has one more win than New York, but they get a big boost from their insane 14 losses in overtime and shootouts. The team has gotten solid contributions from Boris the Forest, who is tied for sixth in the VHL in goals, and Guy LeGrande, who is tied for fourth in goals among defensemen, but overall the young roster has failed to gel at times, resulting in middling ratings leaguewide in goals for and against. The team has also seen struggles out of their young goalies, with A Red Guy ranking ahead of only Greg Eagles among qualified goalies in save percentage. This was to be expected for the young team; next season will be the true barometer of the effectiveness of their rebuild.
