Homecoming For Landry as Playoffs Begin

HALIFAX - After joining the Halifax 21st just prior to the trade deadline of the 69th (nice) season of the Victory Hockey League, Thomas Landry II experienced his fair share of difficulties. He went from being locked out of the team's locker room prior to his first game to going several games without taking his first shot to taking even more games before registering his first point. However, after playing in the 21st's final 20 games, the young winger was able to make a name for himself, and now finds himself in position to do something his father never did: play a VHL game in his home state of Pennsylvania as the Halifax 21st take on the Philadelphia Reapers in the first round of the VHLM Playoffs.

"It's exciting, I can't hide that from anyone," said Landry during an interview conducted over the telephone with the MSFL Times. "My father never got the chance to play a VHL game back in PA, so this is a really special opportunity for me. Even though I'm not wearing the home team's colors, being able to play at home is still something my family and I will always cherish."

The closest that the elder Landry got to play to home in the VHL was in New York. Originally drafted in Season 33 by the Americans, he made his debut there in Season 34, and played against New York as a member of the Davos HC Dynamo and the Calgary Wranglers. The Reapers, of course, did not exist during his career, meaning that, at the time, he had played as close to home as the VHL allowed him to.

With seven points (three goals, four assists) and a +6 rating, Landry II has filled in ably in a reserve role. But as the playoffs loom, his practice time has amplified. He looks to be in the best shape of his brief career, and seems ready to help the 21st move past Philadelphia. Time will tell whether or not Landry the Second will be able to replicate the successes of his father.
