Welcome to, Alex Bridges Around The League, Episode 2. Today we interviewed 2 past San Diego Marlins players, who are entering the draft this year. First off we have @jared. We asked him “Hey Jared, glad you could join us today, how do you feel about entering the draft this year?”. He answered in a simple, but confident voice, “Great, I think i’m gunna get picked in the middle of the first round.”. This is a bold statement from Jared, considering he is only projected to go pick #28 currently. I think teams are interested in Jared as he is very active, and helpful. He is also very confident as you can tell by his answer there. When we asked another former SDM player the sam question he answered with, “I’m a bit nervous if i’m honest. I don’t know where i’ll end up, but I do know i’ll be able to help the team succeed.” This was another very bold statement, but a confident one, I like it. This shows that Ike Bennett (Caboose) is willing to help any team succeed, and is ready for a challenge. Both VHLMers were very confident in their responses, is there a reason?

 

We also asked each VHLMer another question. We asked Jared, “How do you feel about your player so far?”. Jared answered, “I think my player should get a lot more goals than last season (He only got 2 goals) but I am okay, with assists.” I feel that this could hurt Jared’s draft stock a bit, it gave me a sense that he was willing to underachieve, and not stride for his goals. When we asked Ike this questions, he stated, “I think he's coming along nicely still have some areas I can improve him on. But otherwise a solid all-around player” This shows lots of confidence from Ike, and I think it will help him in the draft! 

 

After all that, I would say that both VHLMers had some pretty solid answers. There was an iffy one by Jared, but overall, both these players are amazing. Thanks for taking the time to interview.

Around The League: 

Playoffs- In the Finals, Mississauga started off amazing again Saskatoon, picking up a 3-2 win, to get a 1-0 lead in the series. The celebration was short lived after Saskatoon tied up the series 1-1 in a 6-4 Win. Later on in the series, Saskatoon would pick up 3 more consecutive wins, to win the cup! Nobody knows what happened to Mississauga after being up 1-0 on the best team in the league! Maybe it wasn’t them falling apart, maybe it was Saskatoon being Saskatoon, the best team in the league this year.

 

Draft- Although Saskatoon won the cup, they are losing so many good players to the draft this year. I believe they are losing 5+ players in the top 10 picks. Saskatoon only has a 5th, 6th, and 7th round draft pick, for the next 2 years. I think saskatoon will not be good next year, or the year after. On the other hand, watch out for San Diego and Houston. Houston landed the first and second pic, in the draft, as well as 2 second round picks this year, a first next year, and three second rounders next year. On the other hand, San Diego has 3 first rounders this year,  4 next year. They have 2 second rounders this year, and 1 next year. I think Houston and San Diego, are the next two big teams in the VHLM.
