A Red Guy working with Joey Clarence in the offseason

Recommended Posts

After a strong second season concluded in a Dustin Funk Trophy win for New York goalie A Red Guy, the young netminder is working with a former Cup-winning VHL goalie and fellow Muffins agency alum in Joey Clarence. Clarence, who went in the third round of the Season 18 VHL draft to the Seattle Bears and won a Continental Cup with Calgary in Season 23, is now a ripe 68-year-old but had a lot of helpful tips for ARG.

"In my day, Guy would already be an elite goaltender," Clarence said. "But in today's VHL, he's still approaching that level. He made a massive leap in year two, and is looking to continue getting better."

Clarence would know a thing or two about improving goalies, having co-won the first Funk Trophy with Kevyn Hesje. Some in certain circles regard Joey Clarence as a Hall of Fame snub, so his coaching is certainly welcome for an ascending young goalie.
