TheFlash 317
Hugh Jass was brought back to Houston with the intentions that he would be a leader both on and off the ice. So far those expectations have been met, some may even say exceeded. Jass showed his offensive prowess last season in limited play, scoring just over a point per game while playing just under the final third of the season. He was drafted back to the Bulls in the S70 draft, and named an assistant captain shortly after. Jass clearly hasn't missed a beat, now notching a team leading 21 points (7 goals and 14 assists) in ten games, putting him on pace for just over 145 points. Of course, holding that pace isn't expected but it's certainly a good start. This also puts Jass in the top ten for points scored in the league, a terrific achievement for a defenseman. But the points aren't telling the whole story when you talk about his early success. Jass has been a true workhorse for the Bulls, logging 30.83 minutes per game, good enough for the number one spot in the entire league. He also is among the leaders in powerplay goals, tied for 7th with a bevy of players with three goals. On the defensive side, he 8th in shots blocked with 20 in 10 games. That's just under his average from last season, so he surely has the chops to contend in that category. Jass is making a run at the defenseman of the year award, when you look at it all together. Any defenseman who scores a ton of points, blocks a ton of shots and plays monster minutes deserves the award. This would be a great first step in what is sure to be a decorated career in the VHL.
