(This is in-character)

We all heard the news. The passing of a dear friend took a knife and gutted the hockey world - and besides Saskatoon, no where else did it hit harder than New York. His mentor, and the one who convinced him to join the VHL, had passed, this also being the father of his teammate. In the weeks following, while he still managed to show up to practice, O'Quinn was completely radio silent. Death isn't something that can't be put into words, and it's something that needs time to recover from.

A member of the VHL-NET broadcast team finally approached O'Quinn late last night, questioning O'Quinn about his radio silence and apparent inactivity in regards to his team. O'Quinn was not lead to say much, but he informed us at VHL-NET that he would be releasing a statement in the following days in regards to the passing of his dear friend, and the his personal future.

As expected, he did exactly that, and today he released a letter on his social media accounts, after sending it to us a few hours earlier. Here's what he had to say.

'I tried to make this as short as I could.

Dear Friend,

It was not many seasons ago that I had only just joined the professional hockey world, invited to Saskatoon due to past connections. Others were there to greet me, help me get adjusted - but so were you. When I was worried about future in the VHL - and the VHLM - I was reassured that despite my awkward circumstances, I would be given all the chances I needed to succeed in this stage of my life. You were right, in large part thanks to you, the team of S69 managed to shock ourselves with such a dominating season. I left after that - maybe in seasons to pass, after I had retired, I would join you in helping youngsters in Saskatoon. I don't know where my future will lead now, but dear friend, I will do everything In my power to honor your legacy of kindness, and your key quality, sincerity. You were always genuine - always wanted the best for everyone.'

Quite a sad note. After this was released, O'Quinn was seen practicing with the same ferocity that had first gotten him into the VHL, and to the VHLM Cup, less than a year ago. This is a stark change from about the past month, where O'Quinn had seemed increasingly disinterested in the game as a whole. This must be a relief for his team, but we hope he himself is okay. None of this could have been easy to deal with, for anyone.

(OOC)

It was pretty hard to write this article. I've been all but inactive since before - and definitely since after the news. I tried to leave his name out of this article, out of respect. The community will move on, and we will remember this friend of ours. We don't have a choice, do we? Saskatoon will remember, and those who he talked to, friends and comrades, will too remember.
