A Look at Erik Summers

When I heard this theme week one player instantly popped into my mind. That is Erik Summers. Summers is a first gen D from Germany currently playing for Helsinki. I think at his current pace, he has a real chance at entering the VHL hall of fame. Though, he has some uphill battles. Summer's biggest challenges are the fact he is a first gen, and that he spent his first VHL season in the VHLM. I would argue that at least the latter problem hasn't slowed him down. For his rookie VHL season he's posted 7 goals and 32 assists. He has an amazing 22 +/- which can probably be explained by his 99 shot blocks and 109 hits. His numbers aren't quite amazing for a D but it's only his rookie year. He's basically maxed out his growth up to this point. If he can continue this growth, I think there's a chance he can start winning D awards either next season or the season after. Summers is one to watch out for and I see him doing big things during his career.
