Pengu Scouting Report

From the dark, icy tundra called Antarctica comes a Canadian-raised young center with a promising, bright future. Currently he plays for the Halifax 21st and is showing great promise as a defensively focused play maker. His personality has made him a popular choice for fans, and teammates and his build allows any coach to mold them to their liking. With this prospect report let’s try to figure out his strengths, and weaknesses to see why, or if he has potential.

Pengu’s team did not make the playoffs this season but they were so close. The Halifax 21st were able to seize surprise victories but could not hold strong. Still a very respectable performance from a team no one expected much from. Also, Pengu’s season stats might not be impressive on paper, but in theory he has a strong foundation. With 54 games played he has 10 goals, 52 assists, and 87 shots blocked.

Strengths

Defense

He is not afraid to stop the ball for his team. His impressive technique and knowledge on defending makes it harder for the other team for sure. If he wasn’t there the scores would be even more terrifying. With 86 hits, and 87 shots blocked any team could find a spot for this defensive center

Playmaking

Boasting 52 assists, he’s played a major role in enabling his left and right wingers scoring opportunities. Pengu can find the lines, and enable shots for his players that wouldn’t exist without him.

Puck Handling/Skating

Both are on pair and have enabled his style of hockey. Without those skills his playmaking and defense would definitely be lacklustre.

Weaknesses

Scoring

Once teams catch on to defend his wingers, Pengu has a hard time generating the goals on his own. His lack of scoring didn’t help the team, but he aims to improve it. While, still focusing on being a defensive playmaker, it can only work if the team is afraid he’ll get it in the net himself.

Faceoffs

Winning around a third of his faceoffs is too unreliable for the team. However, Pengu is still new to the league and facing off more and more will give him the experience he needs to succeed in giving his team the temp needed to score goals.

Leadership

Young, and without the ego can be a weakness. His leadership skills aren’t the greatest which is needed to help dictate his team on the ice. Confidence is needed, and with more time we hope to see that in Pengu.

At the end of the day, what we have here is a young player with an undeniably great amount of talent. He's still undergoing a very early stage of development and much can go wrong, but we doubt that'd be the case. His ego intact, and his work ethic is unquestionable which makes him a great asset to invest time and coaching into. Any team would be able to mold him into the player they need, without much or if any trouble at all. With all this in mind, any team that drafts him would not be disappointed.
