Doomsday 4,130
Landry II, Marlins Come Up Short SAN DIEGO - After a tremendous season in which the San Diego Marlins and several of their Season 71 VHL Entry Draft prospects burst onto the scene, Thomas Landry II almost seemed destined to become a Founder's Cup champion, just as his father had. Ultimately, it was not to be, as the Marlins came up short against the Ottawa Lynx, who upset San Diego in six games. "No doubt about it, it really sucks," remarked Landry II as the Marlins players cleaned out their lockers. "This was a great season for us, on and off the ice. We came together to be more than a team, a family. We came together as individuals, wanting to do the best for ourselves, but we leave as brothers. It hurts that the last memory we had on the ice together was watching another team celebrate, but I know I'll be rooting for my teammates wherever they end up." While Landry II's VHLM tenure comes to an end, his bright future in the VHL continues to the next chapter. After scoring a staggering 60 goals and assisting on 85 more for a ridiculous 145 points and a VHLM-leading 372 hits, Landry II's draft stock is rising. Draft projections have placed him anywhere from the 2nd to 7th overall pick, but his future VHL team seems to be the last thing on his mind. "I honestly think I'm more excited about what's in store for my teammates," said Landry II. "Uhtred started out as I guy I was chasing on draft boards and wound up becoming a great friend and linemate. No doubt he's going to be a first rounder in this draft as well. Ike Bennett, well, at first he was a guy that wanted my job. But he became a guy that we all rallied around when he went through some early-season slumps, and look at him now. His heart, his fire is off the charts. If he keeps that up and applies himself this off-season, the Helsinki Titans are going to be thrilled that they took him last year." But when it comes to his own future, Landry II has a simple mindset. "I don't have a choice where I go," he continued. "But I can do my very best to make sure whoever drafts me is happy they did, and that's exactly what I'll do."
