Fire Tortorella 2,653
OTTAWA ADDS FOUR PLAYERS IN SEASON 38 DISPERSAL DRAFT Coming off of their worst season in recent memory, the Ottawa Lynx were scheduled to have the first overall pick in the Season 38 VHLM Dispersal Draft. However, days before the draft, the Lynx traded this pick to the Yukon Rush for additional picks in the next two drafts. Although the team was without a first round pick for the third year in a row, the Lynx were still able to add four solid players to their roster through the draft. 11th Overall: Andrew Erikson – LW – 77 TPE With the 11th overall pick in the draft, the Ottawa Lynx were able to select playmaking winger Andrew Erikson. Although it’s still early in the season and there may be slight bias involved, I’d pretty easily put this pick down as the steal of the draft. After being in the league for only about two and a half weeks, Erikson was already able to amass 77 TPE. The quiet winger was a bit of a mystery going into the draft, but General Manager Jim Gow made contact with the player early on in his career and let him know that if he was still available at 11th overall, he was going to be Ottawa’s pick. Filling in as a center, Erikson is currently third on the team in points with thirty-two. Erikson is expected to be a top contributor on Ottawa’s Season 39 roster. 14th Overall: Andrej Hasek – G – 0 TPE As the twelfth overall pick was on the clock, the Ottawa Lynx quickly tried to trade up to both twelfth and thirteenth overall in order to select a goaltender. Unsuccessful, the Lynx were forced to trade up to fourteenth overall to add a goalie to their roster in Andrej Hasek. While Ottawa was originally aiming for Jose Canseco, who went thirteenth overall to the Moscow Red Wolves, the team felt that Hasek was worth taking at this pick even though he had no practice hours to his name. While Hasek seemed to be interested in improving before the draft, Andrej has never reported to Ottawa’s facilities after being drafted. Although Hasek has backstopped his team to a 10-6-1 record, his .876 save percentage and 4.10 goals against average are less than satisfactory. 16th Overall: Mike McGrattan – RW – 41 TPE In the days leading up to the draft, winger Mike McGrattan caught the eye of General Manager Jim Gow. The German born winger was not only on the site frequently, but he also was not afraid to seek out help both around the site and with his mastery of the English language. The Lynx took this as confirmation that McGrattan was going to be here to stay, and Mike was quickly added to Ottawa’s “Draft this guy” list. So far, the young winger is progressing nicely on Ottawa’s second line. In seventeen games, McGrattan has nine assists and nine goals. McGrattan is expected to be with the team during Season 39 and will be a good fit on either the first or second line. 21st Overall: Dylan Raseri – LW – 16 TPE Slightly more of a long-term project than the previously mentioned draftees, Raseri was selected with the first pick in the third round of the Dispersal Draft. After a brief hiatus from the training facilities, Dylan rejoined the team this week and is slowly but surely improving his game. On the second line, Raseri has been able to muster up eight goals and eleven assists. At this point in time, there may be a fifty-fifty chance of Dylan ever reaching the big leagues, but that doesn’t mean he can’t have a successful VHLM career. At his current rate of progression, Raseri is expected to be on the team in both Season 39 and Season 40. With this solid group of draft picks in the second and third rounds of the draft, the Ottawa Lynx were able to build onto their core while also adding additional assets in the next two drafts. With a couple of minor trades during the season, the Lynx may be able to make any series in the playoffs competitive, although they will enter most series as the underdogs. However, these players selected in the Season 38 VHLM Dispersal Draft will most likely be key contributors to the team in Season 39 where Ottawa looks to make another run at the Founder’s Cup. Guest Svoboda_3
Content: 3/3 733 words. Well this was a superb article detailing the success or unsuccessful events at the draft for Ottawa. As two bottom feeders in Ottawa and Saskatoon have been, we might be the contending teams in a season or two. Nicely done here with some really good writing to boot.Grammar: 2/2 Just one to be picky. Draft = draftAppearance: 1/1 Very nicely done.Overall: 6/6 Link to comment https://vhlforum.com/topic/8424-claimedottawa-adds-four-players-in-s38-dispersal-draft/#findComment-77498 Share on other sites
