You should have seen the look on his face.

As the Ottawa Lynx made their way to the locker room after a convincing 3-0 win over the San Diego Marlins, nobody wore a bigger smile than 16-year old rookie centre Kirk Holloway. "Obviously I'm pretty hyped," he told the local media after the game, "this is the kind of stuff you dream about as a kid and all that, but I'm just happy to get it out of the way so the guys will stop giving it to me."

Holloway has had what one may call a slow start to his Junior career. The Edmonton native had gone his first eight games without recording a point, but it was not for lack of effort - The coaching staff has shown incredible faith in their rookie, playing him upwards of 28 minutes a night. Despite this, Holloway has not been lighting up the Shots department either. When asked, Holloway attributed his slow start to simply making the adjustment to the new level of play. "It's definitely faster up here, you have way less time to make decisions so once you get the puck on your stick, you gotta be ready to go. I'm very thankful that Coach is giving me chances and I intend to reward him for that."

The goal came at 1:28 in the second period, when Right Winger Izzy Valencia blew past the defender, forcing his partner to cover and leaving Holloway wide open in the slot. "Izzy should definitely get most of the credit for that one, if they were all that easy I'd have about twenty by now. I just hope I can use it to get on a bit of a roll here."

Holloway was awarded the Second Star of the Game.

The Lynx will need Holloway to get going if they plan on making a run this year. They currently sit in seventh place in the VHLM and should make the playoffs, but the question remains if they can do any damage against the league's top teams.

In 12 games, Kirk Holloway has one goal and two assists, a -17 rating, six penalty minutes and 22 hits.
