Dtayl 104
Han Jae-Kuk Calls Out Team Asia Han Jae-Kuk joined us this week to open up about the WJC and specifically Team Asia. Jae-Kuk who was ultimately left off Team Asia has apparently taken issue with the how the Team handled player selection. In an exclusive phone interview with us he aired his grievances: “Hello everyone, thanks for allowing me this opportunity. I’d like to take the time to use my platform to push for something that I think is very important, equality. The VHL, VHLM and World Cup of Hockey always talk about how they support equality, and they want to see more equality among the players. However, actions speak louder than words in my opinion and the actions of Team Asia say one thing, winning trumps equality. Team Asia is supposed to be an opportunity for Asian players to represent their nations on the world stage, but what we see instead is Asian players being left off the squad for Canadian nationals in hopes that those Canadians who failed to make Team Canada will help Team Asia be more competitive. So we have Asian players, who are already underrepresented in the sport being left off their own national team in favor of Canadians who are arguably the most represented nationality in the entire sport. Something about that situation screams inequality! Essentially the message that Team Asia is sending is that equality is good, but winning is even better. So we white wash a team that is meant to represent Asia in hopes of eeking out a little more success. Asian players should receive priority on a Team that is supposed to represent them! I wish Team Asia success in the WJC, and I hope next time they get it right” Certainly HJK is very heated on the subject. It could be that he feels some animosity for not being selected. Whatever the reason he is certainly passionate on the subject and we're certain this is not the last we hear from him on the matter of equality.
