NHL Draft Combine results. Implications on VHL

Every year, the NHL conducts a draft combine, a weeklong intensive analysis of mental and physical prowess of top domestic and international hockey prospects for predominately NHL scouts, to comb through the and compile data to ensure that the best player is selected by their respective team in the NHL Entry Draft. And every year, the best young hockey players in the world, sign entry level deals with an NHL club leaving a scarce and empty talent pool in the VHL and it's respective minor affiliates.

Recently, some collective brainstorming from VHL owners have taken place to try and better the impact the VHL has in the global hockey narrative by raising awareness and recruitment numbers. Owners have acknowledged that North American and Russian players are not being lured into the VHL market as both the NHL and KHL are flourishing in their respective markets whereas, the VHL in those markets are competing with the likes of the AHL in North America and the RHL in Russia.

With 1 VHL scout per team invited to the draft combine, and restricted amount of interviews, with what looks to be projected 4th round and later draft prospects, the presence of the VHL is shadowed by the multi-billion dollar National League.

Although the VHL stays in the shadows of their older brother leagues, by no means are they in a bad spot. The state of the VHL is quite strong and through the united fronts of owners and players, it looks like the VHL will be here to stay and top talent will continue to choose the humble VHL over the other alternatives and finally remove the stigma of being a feeder league and start being a major force and historical tableau in the narrative of hockey on the global stage.

The S39 VHL Entry Draft happens to look like one of the best drafts in recent league history and contains some of the best talent playing hockey right now, plus, every single VHL prospect was able to do a pull-up, unlike the top rated North American NHL prospect.
