Patrik Tallinder 1,087
Quote Everything was going perfectly as planned for Patrik and Lucas, and Nils was even dominating his age group in minor hockey. This all changed in the blink of an eye when Patrik and Lucas got in a taxi after going to the gym one night. As they approached the top of a hill on a two-way highway, they suspected nothing. In a split second, a pickup truck was illegally passing another car in the other lane and drove head on into the taxi. Luckily enough for everyone involved, they all survived the crash. But unfortunately, Lucas was paralyzed from the waist down, and lost the ability to play hockey from that point on. Patrik came away with nothing more than minor injuries, and the two drivers each got concussions of varying severity, among other minor injuries. Quote This event changed everything for Patrik, as his whole life, he and Lucas were intertwined with each other in everything they did. They were looked at as “The Tallinder Brothers.” Now Patrik was alone, knowing little English and being more of a quiet guy to begin with. Rather than sulking in the loss of his brother always being at the rink, he made it his mission to accomplish everything he and Lucas wanted to before the accident, and more. Quote His goal has always been to win the Continental Cup They did it. The Riga Reign took home the S72 Continental Cup in 5 games after sweeping the first two rounds. Left winger Patrik Tallinder was not a huge contributor in the playoffs, but that did not mean his heart wasn't in it. After a horrible car crash which seems like just yesterday to him, Patrik is bringing the cup home to his brother Lucas, who was paralyzed in the accident. Both of their lives since they were young were based around playing hockey together, and many of their most fond memories come from their time on the ice. When that all changed, Patrik and Lucas were left wondering what to do next when their dreams had just evaporated in seconds. Patrik continued on his path to the VHL, while Lucas has become a student of psychology. But Patrik did make one promise to Lucas after the accident, and that was that one day he would bring home the trophy they fought for in their driveway a million times. Today, that promise is fulfilled, as Patrik has the Continental Cup with him on a plane to Stockholm, Sweden. Nils will be there as well, and all of the brothers will be able to celebrate what is likely their most monumental moment together. One day, Nils hopes to accomplish something of that magnitude as well, whether it is in the Swedish Hockey League or here in the VHL. He has said that he is extremely proud of his oldest brother, and is very happy for him and Lucas. diacope and Laine 2 Link to comment https://vhlforum.com/topic/86948-patrik-tallinder-and-riga-reign-bring-home-continental-cup/ Share on other sites
