ROOKIE745 610
I usually like to keep this kind of stuff focused on my player but pretty much before last week even started I had joined a new server and just got so lost in it that I almost forgot about doing my VHL stuff. That's why this media spot is kinda last minute and also why this isn't the giant top five stat dump I do around this time. It doesn't help that because hockey has been gone for so long I think I've lost a bit of interest, now it's nothing serious, I'm not going anywhere and I'm sure once the game is back I'll be back into keeping more up to date on my VHL stuff. I was worried myself honestly that I wasn't going to get these in but I just can't let my team down and the people who have helped me up to this point. I'm sorry if maybe some of my post over the next week or two seem to be lacking some of that effort or passion in previous post, I'm not 100% forcing myself to do this stuff just my interest levels are lower right now in hockey. With that said let's see what good old Hexy has been up to. With the Toronto's defeat in game 7 against the Calgary Wranglers the team was off to yet another early off-season, but not as early this time around, the Legion making the playoff's was a surprise to all of the VHL, they we're very much expected to miss the playoffs yet again. The players of course weren't happy and some fans weren't either but it seems most Legion fans knew that this team wasn't a true contender and while they battled with blood, sweat and tears the outcome wasn't surprising. Hextall of course had a great battle with Lafontaine and that deserves it's own breakdown but we're here to see where Hextall went after the hard loss. Well he repeated what he did last year, he got an invite from Rayzor, the GM of the Minnesota Storm and went down to watch a few games. The Storm made it out of the first round against the new Miami Marauders in 7 games, a series that at one point they were down 3 to 1 but the team pulled together and won. Hextall of course couldn't be there as we was busy helping keep the Legion in the playoffs against Calgary. However with Toronto failing to win game 7 that meant Hextall would have a bunch of free time. He quickly flew down and could be seen sitting with Rayzor and Hatter for all 6 games against the Mexico City Kings. "It's a shame they didn't go further, Rayzor and Hatter once again put together another great team, even better than last years team. There has been some tough competition and it's only made me realize how special that season 70 team was." Hextall told us. The Storm finished first overall in the VHLM with 60 wins and 122 points, that wasn't far behind the Storm's season 70 performance of 61 wins and 125 points. We asked for Hextall's thoughts on Woody McPine who had the unenviable job of filling Jaxx Hextall's shoes. "I think during the regular season he played great, I was lucky that I played behind a more defensive Storm team but even then he faced over a 100 more shots than me and put up a better save percentage, and nearly matched me in other stat areas as well" Hextall went silent for a second, clearly not wanting to share his next thoughts "...In the playoffs though I think the pressure got to him, he had good games but he also had some rough games, and it wasn't just him to be fair, even the backup had some rough games. Playoffs can be rough on anyone and the pressure is crazy, I feel bad for the guy being a goalie myself and I hope that next time he's in the playoffs he's able to carry last experience with him and improve himself. I have full respect for McPine and I think he'll be a great goalie as he moves up to the VHL in a time where we see 4 new teams joining, I look forward to matching up against him." It's true that Hextall's and McPine's numbers are pretty close, let take a quick look.Hextall S70: McPine S72: Wins: 61 Wins: 60 Save %: .899 Save %: .900 GAA: 2.09 GAA: 2.25 Shutouts: 10 Shutouts: 9 GA: 151 GA: 160 SA: 1496 SA: 1600 McPine came very close to breaking some of Hextall's single season records, pretty remarkable when you consider that it's only been 2 seasons since those records were set and speaks volumes of how Rayzor and Hatter have kept the team competitive. "I have no doubt that they can do it again. 3 seasons of keeping the team above 100 points, 2 of which saw the team take first place overall. I know the VHLM is a different beast than the VHL but I'd love to see what they could do together with a VHL team" Hextall told us. After the Storm made their exit from the playoffs Hextall himself kinda disappeared. "I just wanted to relax without the thought of hockey on my mind, and didn't even do much online, I just wanted to relax for a bit at my house with nothing on my mind, rest assured though I'll be training hard for next season" He told us in a phone call. He asked him about how he's feeling about the new teams before we let him go "I've given it more thought and I think it may help us more than hurt us, we aren't the most dangerous team, there are other teams with much better talent pools so if anything I think it might bring some of those higher up teams down a notch or 2 and we might be able to pass them. I think we've been able to protect all the most important players for the team so I think we may get through without to much damage as it were." Hextall seems positive about the expansion and the future seasons to come, time will tell.
