ROOKIE745 604
With the Riga Reign winning the cup against the Calgary Wranglers, and we congratulate them for it, we thought we'd take a look back to the first round where the Wranglers almost lost to the Toronto Legion, a team no one thought would make the playoffs and let alone take the first place NA team to 7 games. The Calgary Wranglers finished first overall in the league with 105 points while the Legion finished with 70 points, 1 point ahead of the Wolves, it looked like not matter what Lafontaine was going to have to face one of his rivals in one of the fellow Canadian teams and it ended up being Hextall. Not to long we covered the history of the 3 goaltenders for each Canadian team, Hextall, Lafontaine and Spyro. Hextall and Lafontaine had not meet since their round 2 meeting back in the VHLM in season 69, it was great to see these 2 go at it and what a series they gave us. Game One: Hextall: 31 saves from 36 shots, .861% Lafontaine: 28 saves from 30 shots .933% Game two: Hextall: 20 save from 23 shots .870% Lafontaine: 30 saves from 31 shots .968% Game three: Hextall: 36 saves from 39 shots .923% Lafontaine: 31 saves from 37 shots .838% Game four: Hextall: 31 saves from 35 shots .886% Lafontaine: 33 saves from 38 shots .868% Game five: Hextall: 34 saves from 38 shots .895% Lafontaine: 43 saves from 44 shots .977% Game six: Hextall: 35 saves from 36 shots .972% Lafontaine: 29 saves from 31 shots .935% Game seven: Hextall: 30 saves from 34 shots .882% Lafontaine: 17 saves from 20 shots .850% Besides game six this series was not one dominated by the goaltending, every game besides game 6 saw a goalie below a .900 save percentage and game seven saw both of them have pretty rough performances. Generally the goalie who won had a good if not great save percentage while the loosing goalie had a below .900. I think both goalies would admit it wasn't their best performances with game six being the outlier.... and maybe game five. This was just a short recap of the goalie battle in this series and we hope we get another match up between these two next season.
