In what was Greg Eagles last world cup appearance...it didn't end like he wanted to. Coming into the tournament with confidence after winning the Cup, Eagles was at minimum expecting a medal for his final appearance.

That did not happen as Team World lost in the Semi-Finals to Team Merc and then the bronze medal game to Team USA.

" You know sometimes that's just the way it goes. I thought we had a very good chance at the gold and we played very will during the regular games finishing in 2nd overall" Eagles said " But once elimination games hit, we just fell apart. We didn't play well and it cost us in both games"

In the Semi-Final game, losing to eventual gold medal winners, Team Merc came out strong. Scoring 3 goals in the first period which pretty much sealed the game. Mercs outshot team world 39-27 and it just felt like Team World has no more energy. Eventually Acyd Burn scored early in the 3rd but it was too little too late.

" We just couldn't beat A Red Guy and we just started out flat, no energy in the room " Eagles said " I also started off very slow, letting in those 3 early goals. I think that took momentum out of the team and myself. It's hard to bounce back when you're doing 3-0 at the end of the 1st. The Mercs were a strong team though, I don't think anyone expected them to do as well as they did. Kudos to them though, they really stepped up and played well"

In the Bronze medal game, World lost 4-3 to the US in a game where many team world fans thought they should win. US outshot Team World 42-28 and simply outplayed team world.

" I tried to do my best to keep the team in it but US just kept on coming. 42 shots is quite a bit and I think I may just have been tired from my Playoff run with Riga and the game against the Mercs" Eagles said " I think the whole team was tired but we fought to the end, a lot of the guys here, this was their last world cup and we wanted to win something but it just wasn't meant to be"

Eagles will most likely not play in the S74 tournament as that is when he will be forced retired by the league. Eagles does enjoy the tournament and reflected back on his time with Team World.

" I had fun over the last 2 tournaments and I will always have the S70 gold that we won together " Eagles said " It's sad that this was my last tournament, I really enjoy these and it just sucks we come out empty handed. We had a solid team on paper but for whatever reason it just didn't work out. I wish the future team World all the best and hopefully they can win a few more medals"
