solas 1,951
It hasn’t been a good start for the Chicago Phoenix. In their first season of existence, they’re currently 2-11-0, have the worst goal difference in the league with -32, and have both the least goals for (26) and most goals allowed (58). These are all stats that, if their pace holds, would very likely place them dead last in the VHL. Which wouldn’t be a completely surprising option given the team’s choice to focus on youth and longer-term assets rather than players that would help them in the short term. However, continuing on this pace wouldn’t have them in line for a legendarily bad season like one could think. In fact, they wouldn’t even make it into the top ten for the worst outcomes of any of the previously mentioned statistics. There is, however, an individual player who could crack the record books. Rookie goaltender Jean-Pierre Camus, the franchise’s first ever entry draft selection, has faced 617 shots in the first 13 games of the season. Facing a lot of shots isn’t necessarily new to Camus, who faced the second-most shots of any VHLM goaltender last season with 2,847. But the pace that he’s currently on in his rookie season would put him at 3,417 shots faced in total - which is not only higher than his VHLM total, it’s also the third highest for any goaltender in VHL history. Only SEA G in S45 (3,631) and Rock Star in S36 (3,549) would have more. Of course, it’s only thirteen games into the season. It’s hard to say if anyone’s rate will continue for the next fifty-nine. So things could certainly get better in S73...but they could get a lot worse, too.
