Kelly Power Junior Spotlight

Some of you may be wondering how much or if any talent comes out of the Ol’ Emerald Isle. Well I can tell you that Ireland has produced one of the lesser known VHL prospects in Kelly Power. The winger has plenty of upside and is hoping to prove that with the Los Vegas Aces this season. While he isn’t impressive in the points department, he wants to bring a two way game. As they say, a goal saved is a goal scored.

Now where did Kelly come from exactly you ask? Well he’s from Waterford, Ireland and has been practicing ice hockey from a very young age. He used to play both defense and forward on his peewee team but was officially moved to a forward before his formative years. This most likely explains why he sees defense in his own zone as a huge priority.

In his secondary day school days he started playing in the EIHL in the United Kingdom. He would play for the Belfast Giants and was impressive there finishing top 3 in points on the team as he proved to be a reliable player for the squad. The next season he would lead the team in points in route to a championship win and challenge cup win.
However even after all these accomplishments, Kelly was severely overlooked because of the league he played in and because he want from a big hockey market. That’s how he managed to fall to Los Vegas in the draft. The scouting department clearly did their homework as they will be getting a good top 6 player until he possibly enters the VHL.

Kelly is a very proud Irishman and as such won’t shy away from defending his honor. Although, he doesn’t seek out fights and this shouldn’t make him seem like a goon in any sense of the word. He seems to be a good teammate to those he plays with and a fierce competitor to those in his way. His drive will get him places over the next few years.
Kelly Power is also a part of a grass roots movement to have the Northern Irish territories of the United Kingdom returned to Ireland and the allowance of Ireland to create their own National Team. Although, this has not gained a lot of traction it shows  he keeps his heart with his home and family. Loyalty like that is great to see on a young athlete, as if you’re going to risk a pick on a player like Kelley you want him to hit and stay for cheap so you can help win a cup or two. If you treat him right he will show the same respect.

If I had to predict Kelly’s draft spot it would be mid 3rd round with high second being the ceiling. He could fall later then the 3rd which would mean any team getting him will have a steal.
Watch out for this man in the coming future, and good luck to any General Manger that drafts him
