Xflexz 179
Interview of the Mexico City Kings GM @Hylands 1) What are your thoughts on this season’s performance. I'm extremely proud of how the Mexico City Kings performed this season. We went into the draft with just a single player, came out with 3, and then got straight to work on adding waivers. We managed to finish 7th overall and we did that by punching well above our weight in my opinion. We had an extremely close series with Las Vegas, with 3 games decided by a single goal, so things really could have turned out a lot differently! 2) The Kings were knocked out in round 1. Do you think the team had a real chance this season in getting a cup or was it just wishful thinking? Realistically, we didn't have much of a chance at all at a cup, but it's always fun to be hopeful! I think that attitude served us well all season, and we surpassed all of my expectations. 3) Who do you think will win this season’s VHLM Cup? I think Vegas could definitely take it. They have a strong first line, with some amazing depth, as well as a solid goaltender. They have all the pieces necessary to go all the way. 4) With all the draft picks you have accumulated what is your plan as far as the draft. Will you aim for offense, defense, speed, power? We've just started our scouting process after our elimination, so we have somewhat of a basic idea of what we want to target. I don't want to reveal too much, but you should definitely keep an eye on Mexico City come draft day. 5) Will you be building the team around a specific core or is it going to be whoever the best available is? We're definitely looking to bring back as many of our amazing waiver claims from last season as we possibly can. Other than that we'll be drafting people based on how their interviews go. 6) Do you think Mexico City will be the #1 team next season or is that shooting too high? We're aiming to be the best, yes. We have high hopes for this squad next season and we think we're in a position to go on and be one of the top teams in the league. 7) What are your plans for this offseason other than the draft? We have a lot of scouting to do with the number of picks we have. Other than that, my VHL player is in the playoffs with Malmo, so I'll be closely following that as it goes on. How has been the GM of The Kings been? It's been my absolute favorite experience so far in my short time in the VHL. Interacting with the players on my team is the highlight of my day every day, and I think the culture that Rory and I have created in Mexico is second to none. 9) When do you plan on being a VHL GM? I'm not exactly sure when I plan on it, but I do eventually want to be a VHL GM one day. For now, I'm focused on this upcoming draft for Mexico, which is going to be extremely important if we want to have any hopes of winning a cup. 10) Which team would you like to GM in the VHL if you were able to choose? My choice would be The Malmo Nighthawks. My player plays for them, and I plan on staying there for my entire career. It's a phenomenal place with some equally amazing people in the locker room.
