bigAL 2,176
Answer: probably not. After today's thrilling games, the Continental Cup Final is tied at two games a piece. Both the Helsinki Titans and the Vancouver Wolves have won two games, many featuring overtime periods. With the series now a best-of-three, the question is on everyone's mind: WILL WE GET A GAME 7?!?!? The fans (wishfully) say yes; the history books are not so enthusiastic. In the past ten seasons, only one finals has gone to a Game 7. Funnily enough, it was the oldest playoff I took into account, and also funny, it involved the Helsinki Titans. In S65, the Titans blew a 3-2 series lead to the Toronto Legion. The Legion certainly earned their Cup - they won the decisive Game 7 by a score of 6-2 - but it helped that Helsinki couldn't seal the deal in Game 6. Don't feel bad for the Titans; they won the Cup the very next season by sweeping these very Vancouver Wolves in the S66 finals. (Don't feel bad for the Wolves; they won the Cup the very next season by beating these very Helsinki Titans in the S67 finals). In the past decade, there have been more Finals that ended in 6 games than any other number of games. Four Finals have gotten to the brink of a Game 7, but didn't cross that magical threshold (there were also two series each that ended in 4 or 5 games). For those keeping score at home: Since S65, the Finals Series has gone... Six Games (4x) Five Games (2x) Four Games (2x) Seven Games (1x) Where will S74 land on this leaderboard? Will Six Games take a commanding lead over the past - making the "Game 7s in the Last Ten Seasons" number drop to zero - or will these two evenly matched teams take their best-of-seven to a best-of-three down to a final best-of-one? I'll open the comments for any and all bets. I say... Spoiler Game 7 baby!!!!! Wolves win. Link to comment https://vhlforum.com/topic/94543-will-it-go-7/ Share on other sites
