Greg_Di 1,028
Recently retired goalie Greg Eagles and his son, who is an up and coming VHLM and VHL star, Tom, were spotted in Helsinki for game 6 of the cup. Greg played 4 seasons with the Wolves and was originally drafted by them. We spoke to them after the game to see what they were doing there and their feelings on the series "I just wanted to support my old team, I have quite a few friends there from my playing time in Vancouver and wanted to show my support " Greg said " It's great to see the guy you helped mentor while he was your backup (Spyro) and see him lift that cup. I know when I was there he was an amazing team-mate and all he wanted to do was win that cup, now he has achieved those dreams" Spyro played great in the final game, stopping 28 shots and letting in only 1 in the 5-1 win over Helsinki. Other players that played with Greg who helped the team in the finals were Jeff Downey and Brock Louth " I was really happy for both Downey and Louth, they were both amazing team-mates while I was there and those were the 2 that really led the team this year" Said Greg " I wished at some point when I got traded that Riga could have played the Wolves in the final. I think that would have been a great showdown from the 2 incredible teams I played on. Now as I head into my retirement, I just wish the same for my son and hope he gets the opportunity to play in the finals" Greg brought along Tom to show him the fan perspective of being in the final and the atmosphere that comes with being in a final " I think it was a great experience and I got to see what the fans see and the energy in the stands. I want to do my best so that when I make it to the VHL that I can play for these fans that support us and bring home a cup wherever I may be " Said Tom " I know I still have a long road ahead of me but this experience will help me realize my potential and realize that not only do we play for our team but we play for these fans who are out there supporting us every step of the way" Tom is also preparing for a big day tomorrow as that is the the VHLM draft is expected to get under way. No one really knows where he will get drafted but with his skill set and and pedigree of the Eagles name, you can be sure that he will get drafted high. Whatever team decides to draft him will be getting a winner and a player that is consistently improving to get better. You can bet Greg will be in the stands tomorrow watching with interest as his son makes his first steps to becoming a professional hockey player. Suzuki14 24
Review: Great to see another great father son duo join the VHL. Nice image, and love the short little paragraphs. Nice mentioning your teammates, too. 8/10 Link to comment https://vhlforum.com/topic/94776-greg-and-tom-spotted-at-finals/#findComment-793758 Share on other sites
