GRZ 179
Name: Ove DyrdahlBirthplace: Hamar, Norway.Position: DefencemanHeight: 6'8Weight: 225 lbAge: 19S74 (HFX) - 72 GP | 4 G | 32 A | 36 P | + 41 | 105 PIM | 166 HIT | 39 SB | ''Ove is a tremendous defensive-minded defenceman, that plays a heavy hitting game and shuts down the opponents very well'' Strengths: Ove is a traditional stay-at-home defenceman, that can chip offensively on rare occasions, he has good skating and with strong edgework and agility, which helps him cover a lot of ice, accompanied with a very high hockey IQ this helps Dyrdahl read the play very well thus cutting down passing lanes and forcing shooters into bad positions on the outside. He also uses his stick very efficiently to strip the opponents off the puck and create turnovers. He also plays a heavy hitting game, always looking to throw a big hit and change the flow of the game. Dyrdahl also has really good strength and balance which makes him a hard target to body check and knock down. Dyrdahl is also able retrieve dump-ins and loose pucks and avoid forecheckers and get the puck up the ice of the net, Dyrdahl is a good passer who can create offence in transition with a good first pass, he uses his size and balance well to protect the puck. Weaknesses: While on paper his stats weren't the worst, it has to be taken in consideration that he played on a very stacked Halifax team, and most of the offensive work was done by his teammates, it could be seen that when put in offensive situations Dyrdahl looked lost, especially this was noticable once he was trusted to quarterback a powerplay, his first passes were good, but he can be read very easily, his slapshot can be a cannon, but right now he isn't utilizing it correctly and prefers to pass rather can shoot. Dyrdahl plays with an edge, and sometimes too close to the edge, with all the heavy hitting sometimes that includes some illegal checks which can result in him getting a major, can also energize the team by taking a fight with an enemy, not the best fighter right now but has the potential to be one.Projection:While this player probably will not make instant impact in the team he joins, he is a safe pick for any team in the first round, steady player that will improve with the right coaching and with the right system and players around him, can potentially turn into a big two-way defenceman down the line.
