tcookie 896
Make no mistake, Addison McLaren couldn't be happier with his team's current 7-game winning streak. "It's all about the W, at the end of the day," McLaren agrees. Yet mired in a bit of a slump extending into the double-digits in games, he wishes he was contributing more. McLaren raced out to a nearly 2-PPG start through the season's first 30 games. Once atop the league in scoring, he's now 9 goals behind Dolant Fertitta and 12 points behind Florent Vericel. "I'm always big on wins over numbers, but I'm a perfectionist and I want to get better every time I step on the ice. I just feel like I'm not pulling my weight out there right now. There's going to be a time at some point where it comes down to our line making a play, and I feel like I need to be better." McLaren hasn't faced a ton of adversity in his VHLM career, stepping onto a team and helping them with the Founders Cup last season, being drafted 8th overall in the VHL draft, and then getting out to a blazing hot start to his second VHLM season. How he handles this will be interesting to follow, as he'll undoubtedly have to experience some more adversity - both on a team and on an individual level - when he steps into the VHL. "I'm sure it'll come around, and I'd much rather go through a personal slump than put up big numbers watching our team lose. But I'm the type of player who's never satisfied, always looking for somewhere to improve. And right now in my own game there's a lot of room for it, so I'll have to practice hard and get back to work," says McLaren. "Ultimately, the team's been amazing out there lately and I'm pumped to see it and hopefully go on another playoff run with these guys - that's the main goal."
