Greg_Di 1,022
The VHLM season ended and Tom Eagles was a champion. He finished his minor career on top and now the transition to the VHL begins. Can he play at the same level in the big leagues? What team will he play for? Can he continue to be a champion? The first 2 questions were answered on draft day and his big league debut. Tom Eagles was drafted 3rd overall by the Calgary Wranglers. An exciting team with championship goals. Tom Eagles was excited and couldn't wait to get on the ice and show his new team what he could do. He wanted to repay the faith shown in him by the Calgary by taking him 3rd overall. Eagles really excited the Calgary management team in training camp with his work ethic, willingness to learn new tactics and his skills. Putting in the hard work in training camp paid off on his debut night. Eagles walked into the locker room and was shocked that he will be on the #1 defensive line. " I couldn't believe it, I wasn't expecting first pairing minutes right off the bat but now I have something to prove " Said Tom " I have to show our coaches that I belong on the first line and that they made the right choice in drafting me over some of the other players that were available. I am ready for this opportunity and will work hard to do my best" Then came the debut game, first time on the ice in a Calgary uniform and Tom did not disappoint. While his team did lose the first game, Tom showed everyone what he is capable of by putting up 2 points and playing a very solid defensive game. Calgary fans and the rest of the league got their first look on a potential elite defenseman and no one was left disappointed. His rookie season has started off well, now the question are can he continue to grow and produce for Calgary? Can he keep up with the stress of being a 1st line defender as a rookie? Time will tell but with everything we have seen, the potential is there. Now for the final question that we asked earlier is can he continue being a champion? “ I believe so, I had the honor of being drafted by a playoff contender and a team that finished on top of the rankings last season in the league “ said Tom “ Playing with this team and seeing the depth they have, I believe we can be champions this season if we work hard and play to the best of our ability. I am excited to be on this team and wouldn’t want to have a rookie experience like this anywhere else" We also asked Tom what his personal goals are for this upcoming season "It's simple, I want to help Calgary win the cup" Said Tom " That is my #1 priority and goal, if I had to pick a second one it would be to finish in the top 5 in the rookie race. It is a very competitive rookie season and I want to prove to myself and the team that picking me number 3 was worth it" Edited January 20, 2021 by Greg_Di ThePerfectNut 1 Link to comment https://vhlforum.com/topic/98491-tom-eagles-rookie-experience/ Share on other sites
