Hoopydog 195
This season has been one of struggle for the Riga Reign, as this is the first season that most of their rebuilt squad has played. No one knew what to expect of them this season, as mentioned before, for the majority of their squad, this is their first season playing in the VHL. Regardless of their experience, the squad are on the cusp of making their first post-season but they got some teams on their tails. The Reign currently sit 5th in the European conference with 66 pts, with the Malmo Nighthawks in 6th with 62 pts and London in 7th 59 pts but having played 1 less game. Riga do find themselves in a reasonable position, as they have more ROWs than Malmo and London can make up so if they win one of their remaining 3 games, they will clinch that last spot in the conference and have a tie with Prague or Helsinki to look forward to in the post season. Riga’s last 3 games of the regular season are with the aforementioned Prague Phantoms, Warsaw Predators and the New York Americans. Out of all those ties, the Reign will feel most confident in their game against New York but they do have the potential to beat Prague and cause an upset against Warsaw. Malmo, who are right are probably the closest to catching Riga, have games against New York also, as well as Chicago and London. The odds are firmly in Riga’s favour but we all know the volatility of Simon and his sim engine so we will just have to wait and see who makes it and who just falls short.
