  1. By Renee Young For several weeks, there have been rumors of a new VHLM talent moonlighting in the WWE as a masked luchadore in an attempt to supplement his income. We now have exclusive proof that the masked man known as El Cuchilla is none other than the newest member of the Brampton Blades, Emidas Blair. Blair, 21, was known in high school and his short stint in college as a wrestler well-versed in many styles – it is with this knowledge in mind that the reasoning for his moonlighting becomes clear. As we all know, hockey was not Blair’s first foray into professional sports – but it is his weakest one yet, as he has only played the sport on this level for several short months. It seems that Emidas was hedging his bets on making it again as a professional athlete by attempting to make a name in the professional wrestling business on the side. Fans have reacted warmly to El Cuchilla so far, forcing his promotion to push him as far as the crowd will allow them. However, his identity being revealed may hurt his credibility with the fans – and even put a stop to his current push. The question does remain, however; how was Blair caught? How was the identity of El Cuchilla solved so quickly when many Lucha Libres go years without having their identity revealed, if at all? It seems Blair’s own teammates at Brampton are to blame. Despite the popular opinion that pro wrestling isn’t real, the damage done to their bodies – specifically on certain bumps – is real. Blair would often show up to practice with bruises, cuts and other injuries lathered all over his body and attempt to pass it off as goofing off with friends. The VHLM has not publicly commented on the revelation, nor is it expected to. As it is a stomping ground for many of the world’s best hockey prospects, their private opinion is that if Blair does not commit himself fully to the league then he will likely be soon out of a job – not due to their intervention, but due to his regressing skill on the ice. After all, if you’re a minor league hockey player moonlighting as a wrestler – where is the time in the day to work on your hockey game? Many prospects are now seen as more of a sure thing than Blair for the upcoming draft, and news that his heart isn’t 100% on hockey could convince more than a few General Managers to pass on him – or at the very least, delay picking him until the later rounds. We will continue to follow this story as it develops, but for now, it looks like El Cuchilla’s days as a professional hockey player may soon be numbered. 2. No idea. I tried to make mine about his actual life
  3. Thanks. I tire of the traditional sim league biography, so I wanted to branch out and try something different, really tell a proper story - I hope it was enjoyable to read I must have just blanked on the length of the pros and cons. Oops. That's completely my bad. Thanks for the grade!
  4. By Renee Young It all ended with a crash. On one fateful August night, Emidas Blair died. At least, for seven minutes he did. This is the story of one unlikely hockey prospect that cheated death – not once, but twice – in order to achieve something nobody ever thought he would – taking the ice as a professional hockey player. However, this was not due to lack of faith in his ability – but rather, his dreams taking him on another athletic journey entirely. Childhood Emidas Blair was not your typical jock growing up. In fact, he wasn’t a jock at all – he was an incredibly clumsy nerd. His favorite activities as a child mostly involved some sort of screen and a controller in his hand. Labeled an extrovert early on by psychologists who attempted to get him to open up, Emidas preferred to spend a day inside playing video games to playing sports with his neighborhood friends. In fact, due to the amount of running required and associating with people, Emidas downright hated sports. His father was the local high school’s football coach, and actively tried on many occasions to get his son into sports. He would toss his son batting practice, he would have soccer shootouts with his son, and he would often challenge his son in games of H.O.R.S.E. – all the same effect. His son would just not budge on his hatred of sports. That would all change when the Blair family adopted a child close to Emidas’s age, Alex, and brought him home to live with them. They shortly became inseparable, and Emidas slowly let down his walls – both to people, and to sports. They quickly learned that Emidas’s favorite game was roller hockey – and thus they would play it day in and day out, blocking the neighborhood streets up with goals and kids without a care in the world. Soon the streets weren’t enough, and they wanted to move on to something bigger and better: Ice Hockey. Their first experience was exhilarating. The kids that had skates joined them down at the local pond, frozen over and ripe for the game. They spent hours that day playing, laughing, hollering, and appreciating being alive. Emidas and his brother didn’t want to leave, and decided not to – they played late into the night, until the streetlights came on in their neighborhood and then some. Only when their father showed up, smoldering in anger, did the brothers leave the ice arm in arm. As they neared their father, however, something went incredibly – one moment Emidas was looking into the face of his brother, the next he was gone. Frozen, he looked down at the hole in the ice where his brother stood – just in time for the ice below him to give way. High School It had been six long years since the incident on the ice, and Emidas still couldn’t believe what had happened. One moment he had an entire family, the next he was missing such an integral part of it. Day in and day out at school Emidas kept his head down in an attempt to distance himself from his classmates – he never wanted to experience loss as he did on that day ever again. He had not played a single sport that day, and he was determined to keep that streak intact – in memory of the man he lost that day. One person who would not accept that was his neighbor and the current high school football coach, Enzo Amore. Coach Amore knew that Emidas was genetically gifted and could not bear to let that go to waste. He would corner him during gym in an attempt to persuade him – no dice. He would pull him aside in the halls between classes to make him see what a gift his athleticism could be – no sir. Quickly exhausting all avenues, Enzo had one play left – he only hoped Emidas wouldn’t hate him afterwards. Coming home from school one day, Emidas immediately knew something was amiss. There was an extra car in the driveway, one that he knew all too well. Walking through the door, he feared the worst – and then he saw Coach Amore. Confused, Emidas looked around in a semi-panic until he saw who he was looking for: the person the car in the driveway was responsible for, his brother. Since that night on the ice, Alex had spent most of his life at a mental treatment facility, in an attempt to regain the facilities he had lost during his extreme hypothermia. Breathing a sigh of relief, Emidas turned back to Coach Amore, who almost looked apologetic as he started to speak. “Emidas, I’ve come here today to ask you to join the football team. Not for me or for the school, I know you won’t play for that. I want you to play for your brother, and for the father you lost that night. The father that gave his life diving into a freezing pond, because he knew your athletic ability was something worth dying for. He loved you both so dearly. If he could see how your brother is now, he would do anything to help him. Well, you can. If you join my team, get into a good college, and show the pros what I know you have inside of you – you can take care of your brother. Maybe even get the old Alex back.” College On one fateful August night, Emidas Blair died. At least, for seven minutes he did. A freshman at UCF, Blair had been participating in rushing a fraternity when tragedy struck – the house they were pledging in had caught on fire, trapping dozens of college students. The pledges were in the basement when the house was engulfed, and by the time they realize what was going on it was too late. They fought valiantly through the fire, attempting to get out – most even did. Emidas, having grown into the responsible and heroic man his father was – would not leave without getting everyone out of the building. As he helped his fellow pledges to safety, he realized the screams coming from above were not the searing sounds of the fire, but rather more fraternity mates who were trapped. As his pledge brothers begged and pleaded for him to leave, he could not in good conscience leave people to die. As he headed toward the stairs that looked like they could collapse at any minute, he remembered his father’s sacrifice. It would not be in vein, Emidas thought. I will get through this. I just have to get up these stairs. It all ended with a crash. When Emidas awoke, he saw his family surrounding his bed in tears. As he called their names, they slowly turned, as if in disbelief that he could be alive. Embracing his family, Emidas realized that not only did they have to go through thinking he was going to die – but the similarities between that night on the ice and his fraternity fire were hit too close to home. Surrounded by family, Emidas knew one thing – he would get through this, and he would live his life to the fullest – making his father proud. Pros Fortitude Leadership Dedicated Athleticism Blair is one of the first players in the facility, and the last one out at night. He believes in practice makes perfect – and he believes that nothing can ever be perfect. His past ordeals have made him tough both mentally and physically, giving him a rare fortitude even amongst athletes. If surviving two near death experiences isn’t the tough you are looking for, then you’re not looking for tough enough players. Through his natural ability, hard work, and dedication, Blair has become a natural leader both on and off the ice. He is not afraid to put his team on his shoulders – or even more importantly, know who to give that responsibility to and when. Despite being relatively new to the sport, Blair is surprisingly athletic on the ice, showcasing a rare combination of strength and speed. Cons Loyalty Family Experience Loyalty may not be a con to many people, but for Emidas it most assuredly is. Blair is one of the most loyal people on the planet – to a fault. He will immediately defend a teammate no matter what, and he will immediately cover for a friend no matter what hijinks were involved. Blair earned a rap in high school for being a troublemaker due to constantly covering for his friends’ mishaps – something that could easily turn his reputation in the VHL sour. In the same vein, Blair’s second weakness is his family – whereas most hockey players develop a thick skin, Blair’s is worn thin for his family. A player can get under his skin instantly by bringing up his father’s passing, his brother’s condition, or - for good measure - both in the same breath. Emidas’s lack of experience on the ice, due to his tenure on the football field – will almost assuredly hurt him as a prospect at first. Many players have spent their entire lives on the ice, and Blair has spent merely months.

  12. I'm emidas. Some of you may know me from the recently shut down USFL, or even longer from the SBA - a select few may even remember me from the WBL and other leagues over a decade ago. Not a huge hockey fan (I had to ask what the difference was between a winger and a center), but I am going to learn Here to have fun and add another creative outlet.
  13. After years playing sports that he thought were manlier than "figure skating with sticks", Emidas Blair has decided to try his hand at the world of hockey. Despite his negative pre-disposition to the sport, Blair has since learned that insulting the manhood of hockey players may not have been his smartest idea. Despite his recent run ins with his new peers that has included getting beat up at a strip club and getting tossed into a shark tank at Sea World, Blair has stayed adamant that he will persevere. When asked about his recent venture into hockey, Blair had this to say:
  14. By Renee Young With the recent closing of the nationally-renowned United States Football League, many of its former athletes are looking for another athletic outlet. Some have chosen to go overseas and seek smaller football venues, and others have decided to call it quits entirely, citing family and other dreams they’d like to follow. One such USFL star, however, has decided to try his hand at an entirely different sport – enter Emidas Blair, the sometimes useful Running Back for the Los Angeles Express. While most of the sporting world has express shock that someone of his average-ability at football would switch to another sport, most are actually quite relieved that he has given up his hopeless dream of becoming the best football player in the world. Blair has foregone the usual pity party that is normally associated with losing a job, and has decided to go head first into the VHL, one of the most stable sporting leagues in the world. Citing that same stability as the main reason for his foray into hockey, Emidas has worked tirelessly with old high school and college coaches in an attempt to pick up the sport. Says his high school coach, Enzo Amore: “Emidas Blair is one of the realest guys in the room. He may not have spent his entire life playing ice hockey, but he spent the better part of his college life playing another form of hockey if you know what I mean. I’m talking about tonsil hockey. Not that hard.” While his former colleagues on the football field and the coaches he has tirelessly worked with have nothing but praise for the former football star, we had to wonder if Blair could really pull this off. We decided to seek out his most recent ex-girlfriend, Britani Knight, in an attempt to gleam some insight into his personal life. What we found was not what you’d want to see out of your typical athlete. Despite his hopeful and charismatic demeanor, Emidas Blair has been dealing with abuse problems for the better part of his life. Knight says that the reason they broke up was his abuse of certain drugs (Editor’s Note: PEDs) that he thought could help him gain an edge over everyone else on the ice. Once this article comes to light, it may only be a matter of time before Blair starts looking for yet another sport to cheat at. With this information in-hand, we contacted the subject of our article directly – going into the belly of the beast, as it were. We visited Blair in his hometown of Baltimore, Maryland to discern what he thought of these allegations and whether he would come clean. To nobody’s surprise, Blair emphatically denied any involvement with PEDs and called his ex-girlfriend several slurs that may never be repeated. When Blair finally gave in to give us a comment, he had this to say: “I am not a crook. I have never, and will never take anything that improves my performance – except the little blue pill.” Whether or not you believe that a football star can become an overnight hockey sensation, temper your expectations for the once-mediocre Running Back. Blair may be physically gifted in some respects, but what you see come tryouts and beyond may not entirely be natural. We have turned over our evidence and interviews to the VHL in hopes that this matter be taken seriously, so that Emidas is forced to compete on an even level as the rest of his peers. More on this story as it develops. Renee Young is the editor-in-chief of the VHL Weekly, and will be working tirelessly to bring you a new edition every week during the VHL season
