  4. Name: Arne Torquil Holmquist Age: 18 Birthday: 6th April Hometown: Västerås, Sweden Shoots: Right Preferred Number: 14 Height: 6'0' Weight: 190 Position: Defense Arne Holmquist isn’t your typical defenseman. Usually defensemen are there for “defense” but no, Holmquist is that offensive defenseman who’s player comparison is Erik Karlsson. Holmquist is a spectacular defenseman blessed with hockey IQ. When he has the puck in the offensive zone, he makes things look smooth and easy. He is a terrific passer and he chooses to pass first rather than to shoot it, but he can laser a shot from the blue line and make it in the net. Holmquist's skating is as smooth as butter. With his amazing edge work, he can turn on a dime and transition smoothly. Holmquist has the ability to stick handle faster than other players think, while being ready to share the puck. Holmquist is really good at giving those breakout passes. Arne Holmquist isn’t all perfection, he does lack in a few areas. For example, his strength. Holmquist is weak. He does need to hit the weight room. This is something that he can work on during his career and it isn’t something to worry about until he makes it to the VHL, but until then, the weight room should be Holmquist #1 priority. He needs to put on some muscle to be dominant. Another part of his game that he lacks is defense. With his offensive ability, he lacks defense. As he’s lacking the strength, he can't make those hits in the defensive zone. During his time playing hockey before making it to the VHLM, Holmquist’s work ethic in the defensive zone has been called out and his aggression is looked upon with suspicion. Summary: Whoever chooses to put Holmquist on their team, will get an offensive minded defenseman who will score points. He will quarterback the power play. He’s really good chemistry in the locker room. He has a high ceiling Other: Holmquist is determined to be a team player in every team he plays with. He doesn’t care about winning awards, he just wants to win as a team. He is super excited to play with his teammate, defenseman Callum Janser. He is exactly what Holmquist needs on his defensive pairing. Janser is that defensive defenseman that will help make up for Holmquist’s lack of defense. Pairing both an offensive d-man with a defensive d-man is a really good combo. Holmquist is super excited to get on with his first game in the VHLM

  10. As a die-hard hockey fan, joining a league like the VHLM was always a dream of mine. So when I found out about the VHLM, I knew I had to sign up. The first thing I did was dust off my old gear and make sure everything still fit. Next, I asked people for any tips or tricks on how to improve my game (my build). I practiced my stick handling and shot accuracy in my backyard, and even recruited a couple friends to join me in some friendly scrimmages. Finally, the day of the first game arrived. I was nervous, but also excited to hit the ice and test my skills against some new competition in the VHLM with the Las Vegas Aces as I was picked up from waivers. As I laced up my skates and stepped out onto the rink, I couldn't help but feel a rush of adrenaline. The game was intense and fast-paced, and I found myself completely in the zone. I was able to make a few good plays, and even managed to get some shots and a few hits. Despite my best efforts, however, we ended up losing the game 3-1 against the Mexico City Kings. Although it was disappointing to come up short in my first game, I was still thrilled to be a part of the league. I loved the camaraderie of being on a team, and the feeling of being out on the ice, pushing myself to be better. Over the next few weeks, we played several more games and had some great victories, as well as some tough losses. But no matter the outcome, I always had a blast out on the ice. One of the things I enjoyed most about the league was the chance to meet and play with people of all different skill levels. Some were seasoned veterans, while others were new to the game. It was great to see everyone come together and bond over our shared love of hockey. As the season went on, I began to feel more confident in my abilities and started to contribute even more to our team's success. I worked on my speed and agility, and tried to be a more vocal leader on the ice. Eventually, our team made it all the way to the playoffs. The stakes were high, and we knew it would be a tough battle. But we were all determined to give it our all and leave everything on the ice. In game 7th, we came up just short, losing the round. While it was a tough pill to swallow, I was still proud of our team and the progress we had made throughout the season. Looking back on my experience in the VHLM, I can honestly say it was one of the most fun and rewarding things I've ever done. I made new friends, improved my skills, and most importantly, had a blast every time I stepped out onto the ice. I can't wait to see what’s next for me. (507 Words)
