  1. I've been very satisfied with my performance so far. Almost a point-per-game pace through the first 20 games. That's my goal for the year, is to be at PPG pace. Brett Slobodzian was a hero growing up. He was the first winger that caught my eye and made me want to play the position. The feel of playing with your teammates. It's what takes the longest actually, but when you know what your teammates will do before they do it, your team can be truly deadly. The Rook and Raven is a Saskatoon staple. Great selection and puts me in a great mind space going to the arena. Japan would be a dream. Looks very beautiful and peaceful in the country. Gatorade all day
  2. Well done! I love stuff like this

  4. A Way Too Early VHLM Early Season Review With Team-by-Team Analysis by Ziggy Dupree Well, we’re only a handful of games into the new season but who says it’s too early for a little reflection, analysis, and a few predictions on the campaign to come! *This article is meant solely for fun and not trying to be judgmental or critical of any team/player in the league. I’m writing this as if I were a 3rd party media member. Enjoy.* The San Diego Marlins are pacing the league with 12 points (all wins) through the first 6 games of the season. A wild goal differential of +20 lets everyone know what they need to, they score a ton and play lock down defense in their own end. Following not far behind in the pack of tier 2 teams are the Houston Bulls, the Halifax 21st, Philadelphia Reapers, Mississauga Hounds, Ottawa Lynx, and the Miami Marauders. These are the teams that have kept the record books above .500 for the year so far and look to gain some ground on the mighty Marlins. Goal differentials and winning streaks range from +4 to -12 and W3 to L2 respectively. This tier is wide open, and the fans can’t wait to see how things shake out in the next 10-20 games or so. The bottom tier to start the season holds the Mexico City Kings, Las Vegas Aces, and the Saskatoon Wild (my team!). While these teams have a losing record, the season is young and there is plenty of time for self-reflection and improvement. The league has seen teams come back from such starts, but the ships need to start righting themselves soon if the playoffs are in the cards for these guys. The Kings and Aces are within striking distance and are within 2 points of the Bulls and 3 or 4 points back of the group of 4 teams with 7 points. The Wild are pulling up the rear of the league with only 3 points in 6 games. Eastern Conference Halifax 21st The 21st got off to a hot start at 4-0. Everything was looking great until a recent 2 game skid derailed the winning train. Pacing the team with 8 points are Braeden Panarella and Anze Kopitar. Not far behind are Bedirhan Paard, Marc Gorman, and Jimi Jacks with 7 points. Nobody is running away with the goal scoring on this team as Panarella has 4 goals and 3 other players have 3 goals. Gorman is in the assist lead on the team with 6 apples. Vezina between the pipes has been solid with a .904% save percentage and 1 shutout on the year. Philadelphia Reapers The Reapers start the season at 3-2-1. Kai Bandz started off with a hat trick in Game 1! Elias Lampi is staying busy dishing the puck with 5 early assists and also taking defensive responsibility with 9 blocked shots through 6 games. Suhayb Hussein has the sneakiest stat line with 3 goals…. On 42.86% shooting percentage. Let the man rip it more often and the Reapers should gain ground quickly. Evan Bihler has an .877% save percentage. Solid but not spectacular. He has room to improve that throughout the year. Mississauga Hounds Mississauga is also 3-2-1 and riding a 2-game winning streak. BALANCE is the key word when you look at the Hounds. Only 1 player does not fall in the 9-7-point range. It’s a team game and everyone on this roster is contributing with goals and assists. Wagner in net has been spectacular with a .925% save percentage and a sub-3 GAA. Going forward, Barca and Foley will need to differentiate themselves from the pack as they are the best on the team (TPA wise). Miami Marauders Swinsola is carrying the Marauders with a 5g-5a-10p stat line on the year, good for t-8th in league scoring. But again, balance seems to be the vibe around Miami as the rest of the team is not far behind in scoring and everyone is carrying their weight on this roster. Dinghoa Aland is currently 2nd in the league with 15 blocked shots and Shotter is not far behind with 11. Way to give up the body, and the Marlin’s record shows it. Telker checks in with a .909% save percentage. Ottawa Lynx And currently last, but not least, in the East are the Ottawa Lynx. Still being above .500 is a testament to the strength of the Eastern Conference. Brayden Albrecht leads the team with 13 points on the year. Mac Atlas is laying the body with precision with 20 hits and only 2 PIM. There +4 goal differential lets us know that the Lynx are poised to climb the standings challenge the Halifax 21st for the conference lead in the coming weeks. Western Conference San Diego Marlins Wow, wow, wow. A 6-game winning streak to go along with a +20 (!!!) goal differential is amazing. Sjin and Oreo McFleury (great name) at both at 13 points for the Marlins. With a large roster, I think the Marlins will be able to plug any holes that may pop up due to injury, suspension, or roster moves. It goes without saying that a team that is 6-0 excels at all aspects of the game. The forwards spread the puck around and the defense hit and block shots. On the back end, Lion hold the fort down with a .922% save percentage. I think he will get that first elusive shutout soon enough. Houston Bulls Houston appears to be a top-heavy team. Coming in at 3-3-0, the Bulls top 3 scorers are Connor McLaughlin (11p), Ray Alexander (11p), and Grunkle Stan-dingyouup (10p). The rest of the team falls behind with the next closest scorer at 4 points. The bottom end of the roster must step up if the Bulls hope to stay up in the standings. Shadow Thompson has a .905% save percentage but a near 3.5 GAA, which tells fans that a lot of shots are getting through. Only time will tell with Houston. Mexico City Kings The top 2 point getters in the VHLM (Alexander Stroheim (18p) and Grizz Tazo (16p)) are the highlights of a talented and deep Kings roster. Excellent shooting percentages and shot blocking on the back end of the lineup drives this team. Goaltender Ross Glagau needs to up his game, but the young Canadian has the experience and the tools to quickly rebound this season. The rest of the roster is solid with Riggins (9a) being the secondary playmaker on this team. Las Vegas Aces This team is anchored by defensemen Juan Ceson. Leading the way with 9 assists, 27(!) hits, and 13 shot blocks he is playing very well. It’s a matter of time before he cracks the goal column. Owners of the worst goal differential in the league, it shows on the roster’s +/- column, but that can be remedied quickly by rookie goaltender Benjamin Taylor finding his footing in the new league. Playing better defense will be key for this squad. Saskatoon Wild Currently riding a 3-game losing streak, the Wild limp into the standings at this point. Asher Boham has played valiantly posting an .899% save percentage in front of a lackluster squad. Centers Trash, Ibrahimovic, and Lefevre buoy the team with solid shooting percentages. Admir Bala leads the league in hits and the rest of team generally plays well together. I don’t expect this team to be in the cellar at the culmination of the season. Hope everyone enjoyed the read and here’s to a great season lads! 1263 words
  5. I was super pumped to don the hallowed Saskatoon Wild Jersey and have an opportunity prove myself in the minor leagues. I want to keep it going and hopefully see more W's coming our way in the near future. It looks like we've been getting the shots on net, but we need to work on getting better scoring opportunities and getting more of those pucks in the net. Getting better in our end is also a top priority as we have the league's worst goal differential. I think we will duke it out all season with Mexico City. We are only 2 points back in the standings and with the shots we've been getting coupled with their 27 goals allowed on the season, we will be in for some great games. Watching the early 2000's Detroit Red Wings teams loaded with HOF players and studying how they played with flair and poise was a revelation. I'm still waiting for Sergei Fedorov to take me up on the invite to my 5th birthday party... I've got to go with the Calgary Wranglers or London United. I love London's nod to its football history and the iconic crests of EFL. Pancakes, maple syrup, sausage, poached eggs, toast. Boom.
  6. Game 2 Recap: Can Philly Repeat? Philadelphia vs. Las Vegas (11/14/2022) The answer to the question is a firm maybe! Philly gets out of the gate with a victory against Las Vegas. The Aces put the pressure on early outshooting the Reapers 18-8 in the first period, even though LeBen Aky opened the scoring at 9:55 of the first period. Aces goaltender Benjamin Taylor had a rocky start to the season allowing 5 goals on 22 shots. The whole league is sure he will turn it around next game! Hayden Bromley led the way for Vegas with 1G and 1A on the night. On the Reapers side there are a few stat lines that jumped out at the crowd. Kai Bandz starts off the season with a hat trick! Elias Lampi was right next to him on the scoresheet with 1G and 2A for 3 points of his own on the evening. Luke Glendenning was stellar in the face-off circles with a 28 wins out of 37 draws taken.
  7. Game 1 Recap: Halifax 21st vs. Ottawa Lynx It was a wonderful evening as the VHLM kicks off it's 86th season! Two teams north of the border squared off and delighted fans with a very solid game to start the season. Halifax took home the victory on top of a 3-1 score on Monday night, even though Ottawa carried the shot total 35-25. But you know what they say, it's not the number of shots but the quality as Halifax's playmaking ability made its presence known. Shout out to David King for getting the season scoring underway at 6:20 of the first period. Ayomide Ayodele led the night with 3 points! Igor Vezina had a spectacular night with 34 saves on 35 shots as well. Hats off to a great season opener!
  8. 1. It was a long plane ride to finally arrive in Saskatoon but I find the city charming. Quite a bit larger than my last stop in USHL's Muskegon, MI. Can't wait to explore more and find my footing in a new place. 2. I expect some growing pains my first year in a new league, but I think I'll be able to make the adjustment and hopefully make the fans cheer for their hometown Wild. 3. I'm looking forward to my first professional point in the VHLM. It will be a major milestone in my career! 4. I excel at playmaking on the offensive end and being a defensive stalwart on the back end. Killing penalties and getting apples, maybe banging in the occasional goal. 5. As much as I hate to say it, I think the Bruins are going to take it with their bulletproof start. I think the Devils will hang in there but fade later in the year due to a little inexperience. 6. I have to say the Lemon Ice Cream at Tyler's down in Florida. Shout out to Tyler!
  9. Name: Zigmund "Ziggy" Dupree Position: Left Wing Height: 72 inches Weight: 190 lbs Hails From: Muskegon, MI Preferred Number: 88 Player Bio: Born and raised on the west coast of Michigan in the city of Muskegon (population about 38,000). His love of the game came from watching the early 2000's Detroit Red Wings and their runs to the Stanley Cup finals and multiple championship wins. Even though he wasn't the biggest of kids, he idolized the play of Eric Lindros of the Philadelphia Flyers. He developed his style trying to emulate the combination of size, strength, and scoring touch. Unfortunately, he did not get dealt the same genetic hand of cards and currently stands at 6 feet tall and a sold, but not necessarily impressive, 190 lbs. After progressing through the house leagues in earlier childhood, Ziggy advanced to the local Peewee and Midget team, the Muskegon Chiefs. Not living up to the scoring standards of the elite players in his age, Ziggy was always one of the top playmakers in his age group. He learned to do all the "blue collar" parts of the game and to excel at them. This may involve digging pucks out of the corners, aggressive forechecking, killing penalties, playing the body, and getting the puck to the scorers on the team. After setting assist records in the WMHL in the 16-year-old age bracket Ziggy would be drafted in the 3rd round of the USHL Entry Draft by the, you guessed it, his hometown Muskegon Lumberjacks. After putting up 61 points in 62 games in his last season, Ziggy is ready to take the next step in his hockey career. Hoping that a team in the VHLM will take a chance on him, he wants to climb the career ladder and make it to the show, the VHL. Ziggy plans to forego his NHL eligibility because of the international and grassroots aspects of the VHL. Ziggy would like to hopefully join the Saskatoon Wild for the upcoming season and develop as a player. It seems like they have fostered an environment of progress and player progression. A run at the VHLM cup would be ideal as a start to his professional career. Playing Style: Ziggy is a primarily a playmaker with a grittier side to his game. Playing responsible defense and starting the rush the other way is what he excels at the most. Everyone has a job to do on the ice and Ziggy likes being the straw that stirs the drink, the sparkplug, the catalyst, ect. Thank you for reading! 427 words.
  10. Hi to all and I'm excited to get going. A lot of stuff to learn but I love the idea of working my way up the ranks and into the league lol. Probably a little masochistic but I love the idea of being a part of a big community of like-minded hockey fans!
  11. Thank you all! It seems like a great idea for a league. There is a lot to learn but I'll get there!
