The Riga Reign have had a bit of a rough start to the season as they sit at the bottom of the European Conference and 2nd bottom of the VHL table, with only D.C. below them. They currently have a record 1-4-1 but it is no reason to panic. Remember this happen at the start of last season when the Reign played backup goaltender Cal Conway for a stretch of games at the start of the season but then they pick up form with Calvin Harvey in the net. Saying that, rookie goaltender Matt Sovick has performed better than Conway did last season, as he is currently 1-4-1 where as Conway went 0-6-1 in the games that he played.

What may be causing slightly more concern for the team however is that they aren’t scoring nearly as many goals as they should be. They have only scored 12 goals so far, the lowest of any team in the league. Again, it’s still early doors and more than likely the Reign will come good but if they can’t find that scoring touch then they could be in for a long ride this season.
