In S69 Kris Rice was selected 11th overall by the Calgary Wranglers. This was the start of what had been a whole journey for player and GM alike. It sparked his interest to want to become a GM. It was the big transition in Calgary from the most hated place in the league to one of the best. So many things were set in motion by that draft pick way back in season 69. What would have happened if Kris Rice had gone one pick later?

Calgary passes over Rice with the 11th overall pick and is taken next by New York. Rice then doesn’t get to join the Calgary LR. He doesn’t get to meet Jubis, doesn’t get to experience the turmoil in Calgary. Probably doesn’t find the inspiration to become a General Manager therefor doesn’t end up applying to become the assistant general manager of the Yukon Rush which leads to not becoming the General Manager of the VHLM expansion franchise Miami Marauders which then leads to not becoming the General Manager of the Calgary Wranglers completing the long road around to complete the circle of life. Calgary may or may not have still been the worst place in the VHL.

All the people along the way I had a chance to work with I probably wouldn’t have met. A large portion of new members may or may not still be around.  It’s a never ending vortex of things that would have been affected by one small virtual decision made by someone who isn’t even apart of the league anymore. Who knows where this path would have ended up if I had been taken by New York but it would derailed what has been an unforgettable VHL experience for myself.

I would have helped New York bring life to their locker room probably sparking my interest in becoming a GM. I would have applied to become the AGM of the Saskatoon Wild and worked my way up to become the GM of the expansion team Colorado Canoes. Esso would have gone mad because he couldn’t maintain the same type of activity I once brought to New York and stepped away from the position. After winning five championships in three seasons with the Colorado Canoes I would have stepped up to become the GM of New York and won them their first championship in over 10 seasons. I would then have rebranded the team to the Canadians instead of the Americans.

What about my player? What would have his career ended up being like? In reality he came so close but never achieved any success. In my alternate reality it would have been exactly the same. Unfortunately the timeline of my time to become a GM doesn’t line up with my players so he would have ended up not winning anything. As of matter of fact it would have been worse. Instead of making it so close he would have always been so far away. New York never became good until GM Ricer took over and Kris Rice was passed around from

bottom feeder to bottom feeder as if he were a bottom feeding town bicycle.

Alternate Realities though? Am I right?
