Well it seems Riga Reign are losing players in back to back seasons due to retirement. This one came at a surprise though. Calvin Harvey has announced that at the end of the season he will be retiring from the league. We obviously don't know everything going on with him, but we respect his privacy at this time. With the team losing Ray Sheilds last season, this is another blow to the veteran core of the team. This also creates a problem in net as the starting role is now up for grabs. Riga currently has Matthew A Sovick Jr as their backup currently, but in the prospect pool they have a few goalies who aren't ready to make the leap from the VHLM to the VHL. Morgan Karlsson is progressing nicely but if Sovick Jr takes over the starting role next season Karlsson will get the backup role.

"Obviously it's tough losing another player to retirement. Harvey was the first player to welcome me when I got to Riga. He was a real locker room leader so when it was announced it was a shock to us all. Hopefully it's a mistake and he comes back, but I honestly don't think so. Right now we have to focus on the current season and get him one last run at the cup."
