Jan Hlozek has arrived in the VHL. The Czech blueliner, who is coming off a Founder’s Cup win and gold at the World Juniors, is seeming to be enjoying life in the Latvian capital as he spoke with Hockey.cz yesterday.

“Being with the team that drafted me is really fun. The guys have been so welcoming and I think the transition to playing at the top level has been tough. Players skate better, shoot harder, and move the puck quicker, but I’m managing so far,” Hlozek said.

Hlozek, a puck-moving defenseman, has racked up 7 points through his first 14 games in the VHL – good for joint-third in rookie scoring, and the Topolna native said that the bounces were going his way.

“It’s nice to be producing. That’s a big part of my game, getting production from the back end and making a contribution for my team. Of course, I’d like to be scoring more goals, but I’m willing to do whatever it takes to help the team win,” he concluded.

The Riga Reign currently sit 7th in the European Conference with a 4-7-3 record. The Latvian club is looking to mount a playoff push having missed out on postseason action in S77.
