No injuries in 78 seasons.

Fans have been wondering how is this possible....
Other leagues want to know the secret....

The media can't figure it out....

These are the recent comments being made as we lead an investigative piece over why the VHL has had no injuries in 78 seasons. Is this due to the max of 8 seasons allowed to be played by each player which has them playing at their peak? Is it each teams training regiments? or is there a more sinister reason?

 

For this piece we looked at the Eagles family which included Greg Eagles who was a goalie back in S67 and played until S74 and his son Tom who is currently playing for the Calgary Wranglers. We visited Greg in his hometown of Wroclaw, Poland where he was preparing and training for a MMA Fight.

 

" I really don't know what it is, I think having injuries would be good for the league as you can have players you usually play on the lower lines the chance to step up and show the team what they got " said Greg " but in the VHL where you only have 8 seasons and everyone is at peak age, Injuries are really rare to see. In my whole time playing, I did not witness one injury. Players who got hit hard would just bounce back up"

 

Even with players being at peak age, you would think that there would still be a few injuries here and there throughout the season. When we spoke to the league, they told us that they take player safety at the highest priority and have developed specialized mandatory hockey equipment.

 

" We have the same equipment as any other league but with special patented material " A league source said " We do not divulge what goes into it but since the introduction of this equipment in season 1, we have not had any injuries. Keeping players safe and on the ice is the number one priority and we spared no expense in making sure it stays that way"

While our requests for a sample of the league owned equipment was denied, we spoke to Tom regarding this equipment.

 

" They don't tell us what's in it and it is league mandated. If you do not wear this equipment they will not let you play " Tom said " The equipment feels the same like any other but it feels like it takes shot impact and the impact from getting hit to a whole new level. I don't feel anything. Pucks and bodies sort of just bounce off you. I think it's great as it produces some pretty spectacular hits and blocks, while feeling safe and knowing that you can play your game and not be injured"

So the answer has somewhat been answered but at the same time we have no validation if these players and league sources are saying the truth or if there are other reasons why injuries are non existent in this league. We will continue to investigate and try to get to the bottom of what the equipment is made out of and if in fact, this special equipment is what is keeping the players safe.

Just more reason to not take shot blocks seriously.
