It seems Justin Lose has found his footing in the VHL. After the previous article posted which went over how poorly Riga has been doing in the early part of the season, Lose has finally reached a point per game pace. Since that article, in 11 games he has posted 8 goals and 8 assists for 16 points. He has also improved his +/- rating slightly with a -6. What sparked this production? In a shocking turn of events, Lose wasn't actually on the first line for the first few games. The Riga GM has stated that Lose was producing on the 2nd line during the lottery tournament and thought it would carry over to the new season. Now with a true first line chance, Lose isn't looking back.

"It's nice to finally get that chance to prove myself to the world that I deserve to be here. Of course I've done okay in production the past few seasons, but this is where I'm going to shine. I won't let this opportunity slip away from me. I've already proven that I can be a point per game player. I've also worked on trying to stay out of the penalty box this season. I already took a penalty which sucks, but I feel like I've made up for it by having 2 powerplay goals already. I won't let this team down again." - Lose on his production so far

Riga has also improved overall, going from 2 points in 7 games to 17 points in 18 games. They have jumped from being last in their conference to only being 1 point behind the Helsinki Titans and the Malmo Nighthawks who both have 18 points. Will this be the season that the Riga Reign move from playoff play-in hopeful to a deep run contender already?

"Where we are in the standings isn't great, but we are surprising a lot of the top teams this season. We have proved to the rest of the league that we aren't messing around this season. Everything can change though. Hopefully we can finally be that dominate team that we were drafted to be." - Lose on the VHL standings

Another key piece of the puzzle for the sudden surge is Calvin Harvey's retirement tour. He has solidified his stay as the starting goalie for the Riga Reign. He is currently 7-6-2 with a save % of .916 with a 2.9 goals against average. He even has a shutout! Harvey is on pace to have a better regular season compared to the previous two seasons. He already matched his career high of shutouts with 1.

Of course the season is still young as I stated in the previous article. You never know what can happen in the VHL. This is an exciting time to be a Riga Reign fan now though. Will Riga string together some wins and get ahead in the playoff race early? Will Justin Lose finally have a great productive season? Tune in and get hyped for the Riga Reign gameday and find out!
