Luc Tessier, rookie centerman for the HC Davos Dynamo, is finding the VHL a lot less hospitable place than the VHLM. Last season, Tessier lit up the league as a star for the San Diego Marlins. He lit the lamp 37 times and assisted on 41 goals for a very impressive 78 points. He also posted a phenomenal 15.9% shot accuracy.

But after only one season in the juniors when most players spend at least two, Tessier made the jump to the parent club – and saw his numbers plummet.

With 27 games played, a little less than 40% of the season, Tessier has only potted 5 goals and notched 8 assists. This would put him on a pace for 13 and 21 respectively with a meager 7.4% shot accuracy. That would be less than half his numbers vs. his juniors set. The only thing improving as the season moves along is his face off performance. He’s improved that a couple of percentage points over the past 9 games going from 40.2% to 42.2%.

But Luc isn’t discouraged. He knew the jump would be a mountain to climb. Though it isn’t being directly reflected on the ice, he knows he’s learning the faster, stronger, tougher game of the VHL and setting himself – and Davos – up for superior days to come.
