This paragraph will focus on the EU conference. Starting from the bottom we have HC Davos. I wouldn’t say I’m shocked by them being there, but there one of those ‘just missing the mark’ category teams where I expected them to finish anywhere from 5th to 8th. Moscow sits in second last as of now, but even thinking about the future of this team could scare a lot of other teams. Another lotto pick would all but guarantee their perfect core for the future. Riga is hanging out in 6th, but this could be the start of a mid season turnaround for them, as they’ve won their past 3 games in a row. The calls from the fans have not been mild to say the least, and everyone was expecting Riga to be a playoff team from the start this year. Moving up to 5th we have Malmo still just slightly overachieving in my eyes. I wouldn’t be disappointed personally if Riga pasted Malmo and Malmo got a lottery pick, but on the flip side, it would be kinda funny to snub Riga for yet another season. Prague is hanging out in 4th place having a solid season so far, there’s nothing of note or no real surprises so far for this team. In 3rd sits Helsinki, where it’s looking very likely that they could have a 1st round matchup against 2nd place London. I would argue that either of these two teams could have a shot to take out the beast Warsaw in 1st place, while Warsaw may be flying high and feeling good as the postseason slowly approaches. Their on paper roster doesn’t tell me that they can just move through playoff rounds no problem.

Moving on to the North American conference. Vancouver sits in last, but they should have no worries for the future with a plethora of younger roster players and rookies. Toronto is pretty much like the leafs in real life right now, except without the regular season winning. They have a great on paper roster, but haven’t figured it out so far as they sit 7th. New York sits in a more expected 6th place as apposed to Toronto. They have great Defense and a good goalie, but the lack of depth on forward could be why New York is in 6th. In 5th place we have LA. They probably won’t be too pleased as I would be expecting top 3 with a roster like that. Calgary sits in 4th with a ton of forwards, but a meh defense and goalie duo, I would say Calgary is exceeding expectations this year, and LA will be licking there lips hoping to pass them. DC dragons might have the most middle of the pack roster in the whole conference, so playoffs was probably expected, but 3rd place will keep the dragons happy at the moment. Chicago sits in 2nd with a real solid roster, and should have eyes for the cup as long as 1st place Seattle doesn’t have anything to say about it. Seattle, Chicago, and LA should be top 3 for on paper rosters that is, but it may come down to Seattle or Chicago for who makes it to the cup finals.
