The off-season is such an exciting time.

The WJC is in full swing (behind the scenes). Now that we have GMs hired, RJ and I are working hard to help them get ready to be kickass GMs. At the moment, they are hard at work drafting their rosters. It’s tough job to put together a team from scratch. Even VHL GMs don’t get to do that!

When building their team, GMs have to consider both the player and the person, and there’s lots of rules about each. The person has to be actively active. This is sometimes a problem because oftentimes the career VHLMer with the high TPE is someone who clicks the button every now and then, and tears up the minor league over five seasons there. That’s not quite the person we’re looking for in our big energy, hyped off-season tourney. Clickers are not penalized by any stretch, but we have strict eligibility rules about picking only active players.

Choosing the spreadsheet players is the fun part. You have to consider so much more than just TPA (TPE is bad, dontchyano). These GMs are scouting player builds hard, dreaming up synergies to create optimal lines. With a 9-4-2 roster, there’s plenty of line juggling that can be done to squeeze out every last bit of talent on a roster.

It’s a fun exciting time, and I hope you’ll come along for the ride. The WJC starts two days after the Continental Cup is awarded!
