Greg_Di 1,028
Greg Eagles has been back in the VHL for almost a full season now and today we sit down with him to talk about how it's going from an AGM perspective. R: Greg! Great to finally have you back here for an interview GE: Thank You, glad to be back! R: You have been AGM for a little bit now, how are you feeling in this role?GE: I'm loving it. The GM gives me a good portion of responsibilities and we always have discussions about where the team is and how we can improve. No complaints so far! R: What in your opinion is the main difference of being a player in the game vs a management role now that you have done both?GE: Great question! With management I think you have to be more tactical. You have to figure out ways on how you can improve your team by giving up as little as possible and dealing with all these great GM's in the league, that becomes a hard process. When you're a player, yeah there is some tactics but not as much as being on this side. The other difference is that in management you are working pretty much 24/7 which a lot of players wouldn't be able to handle that type of commitment. R: That is definitely very interesting! Could you tell us about your recent trade to acquire Sirkants Klamasteris?RE: You know, it was tough moving on from Askarov and Claps within days of each other but sometimes in order to get a little better you have to move player of that caliber. As a management team and as a former goalie myself, we knew if we really wanted to make a run this season that we needed an upgrade in between the pipes. Luckily for us Sirkants was available and we are happy to have him here. He is already showing us that we made the right call. R: Thoughts on the rest of the Wrangler team?GE: I think we have a very solid team with depth in all positions. Our young core is finally hitting their prime and its showing in the standings. I still think that some players are still waiting to breakout and I can see that happening in the second half of the season. We are very confident in our team and confident of doing well in the playoffs. R: Let's talk a little about your son Tom, who is also a wrangler. What has been happening with his play lately?GE: You know, we are not sure. We tried him on the first pairing and second pairing but nothing seems to get him going. It could just be a slump season, most players go through that but I also know how much work he put in the off-season. It's a mystery to us all but we are working with him to try and get him going in the second half. We still have plenty of games left and we know he can turn it around. R: If any other GM's are reading this, do you want to disclose what needs the Wranglers might need in terms of trades?GE: I think we are pretty set at the moment. I don't forsee anything drastic changing between now and the deadline but you never know. If someone becomes available that we know can help out the team, then we will do our due diligence and see what works. KC15 340
Review: Solid article. Always good to get the perspective of someone new to management. Thought the color coding made it very easy to follow the interview and know who was speaking at every turn in the conversation. Could smooth out some of the sentence structure, but solid nonetheless. Always wonder if it's appropriate to comment on things like that, but is it really a review otherwise? Example, The other difference is that in management you are working pretty much 24/7 which a lot of players wouldn't be able to handle that type of commitment. This would be smoother without the "which" and split into sentences. "The other difference is that in management you are working pretty much 24/7. A lot of players wouldn't be able to handle that type of commitment." Small difference, but stack those up and you have a better piece. 7.5/10 Link to comment https://vhlforum.com/topic/106739-interview-with-agm-eagles/#findComment-865838 Share on other sites
