Commissioner Beketov 9,025 Posted August 5, 2014 Commissioner Share Posted August 5, 2014 Before the season started if you had asked Jackson Miller who was going to win the Christian Stolzschweiger Trophy as the VHL's top rookie this season, he would have said teammate Don Draper. It is true that Draper is one of the league's more experienced rookies and certainly has a large number of practice hours over Miller. However, a change in the opinion of the young forward may have just occurred. After reading the latest edition of the VHL Magazine, Miller became suddenly aware of how he looks in the race at this moment. He knew he was scoring well but didn't know quite how well it seems. The Canadian right winger currently sits atop Helsinki's roster in both the goals and points categories and sits in 3rd overall in rookie scoring. We reached out to Miller for comment. "Honestly, my agent [Alexander Beketov] had told me not to get my hopes up too much for my rookie season. His had been bad and most of his clients had felt the same sting of being easily passed over for the award. I guess because of that I wasn't paying too much attention to it." Miller is certainly paying attention now. He currently sits 6 points back of the lead in rookie scoring which is a sizeable but manageable number; especially when his 14.63 shot percentage is taken into account. In addition, he currently sits at only 18 PIM compared to 29 and 69 as recorded by the two men sitting above him. "I don't want to start thinking I'm going to win the award. The guys above me in the scoring race right now are great players and certainly have the experience over me with an extra season, even if it is the minors, under their belts. I'm not counting myself out like I was at the beginning of the season though. I want to hear my name called for that award."
