Greg Eagles has just finished his first year as the AGM of the Calgary Wranglers and now prepares for his second year. While he had many tasks throughout his first season, the most important was dealing with contract extensions for 2 Wrangler players. Those players were critical to any Wrangler success in the future.

The first player assigned to Eagles was Nils Tallinder. The young prospect who was drafted first overall by the team in S78 had only one year left on his entry level contract. Eagles knew that Nils was a vital piece to the Wranglers future and wanted to get him locked up for as long as he could. After a quick back and forth Greg presented a 5 year extension for Nils which he happily agreed to. This signing helps solidify the C position for the now and the future. The Wranglers want to build around their first overall pick and can now look to do that with Tallinder.

" Nils was easy to work with, he wanted to be a Wrangler and we wanted him to be here for as long as possible " said Greg " It was an easy negotiation and I am glad everything worked out. We can't wait to work with Nils for the foreseeable future"

The second player that Greg was looking to extend was Dan Dan. This was a player the Wranglers wanted to keep due to his great production, great leadership and experience in the VHL. This contract was not as easy to hammer out as the first and Dan Dan made Greg work for it. Dan Dan didn't care about the money but he wanted to know what the team could do for him outside of that. This was an interesting contract to work out and while Greg did not say what was promised there was rumors of a statue of Dan Dan that would be built if the team won the cup.

" I am not going to confirm or deny what was said during contract discussions, this was a private matter between myself and Dan Dan " Greg said " It was a pleasure working with Dan Dan and I am happy we came to a conclusion. We are happy to have Dan Dan here and to help lead our offensive core for the rest of his career"

At the end of the day Dan Dan signed with the Wranglers for the remainder of his career. While Greg worked on these contracts, GM Ricer worked hard to sign the rest of the core. The GM signed Johnston, Eso and goalie Klam to extensions which will help the Wranglers on their run for the cup this upcoming season.

There is one core member left to be signed and that is the son of Greg, Tom Eagles. Not much is known about the status of those contract discussions and we tried to pull some information from Greg.

" I am not involved in those negotiations as that would be a conflict of interest, that is between Tom and the GM" said Greg " I think in the grand scheme of things Tom will end up signing here, he loves the city and he wants to bring a cup home to Calgary. I think things will get done sooner rather then later"

Fun article! I liked the little pieces of information regarding the players and their importance to the team. The comments regarding contract negotiations sound realistic and something you could hear after successful contract negotiations. The structure of the article is clean, the article is easy to read. There is a picture. I can't think of anything to suggest for improvements.
