VINNY DETROIT ROOKIE EXPERIENCE

A COUPLE SEASONS IN THE VHLM

The VHLM wasn't kind to Vinny Detroit. When he first joined the league he was picked up by the Miami Marauders who were a bottom feeder team that were getting ready to compete in the next season of play. Joining the team, he was able to get just 1 goal and 4 assists and a -9 in 19 games. He was able to showcase his best asset, and that is his physicality with 44 hits in those games. Coming into the dispersal draft for the M, there wasn't much expectations for the young player. There were tons of offensive powerhouses and for that he dropped down to the Mississauga Hounds at 21st overall, the team which also had an abundance of picks and the clear early favourites for the cup that season. Detroit saw bottom 6 minutes the entire year on a stacked team and was only able to manage 2 goals and 5 assists the entire season. He was not a liability, however; finishing with a +12 rating. Again his hard hitting, hard nose type of play is what made him stand out with over 200 hits on the season finishing just outside the top 10 in the league, despite playing half the time of the rest of the players on that list. Mississauga finished first in the league as expected but unfortunately fell flat in the finals against Detroit's old team, the Marauders out of irony. It wasn't a great year for Vinny but his heart wasn't set on playing in this league.

WILL HE PLAY IN THE VHLE?

No.

ON TO THE VHL

Mr. Detroit has always had his heart set on playing in the big leagues as soon as he was drafted. Skipping the VHLE was no question and only few players would be able to do it, with just 3 doing it this year. Vinny had no idea what would happen going into the draft, despite being one of the hardest training players in the entire class, mocks had him falling out of the first round just because of his style of play, with no faith that he could develop his game further. The draft came around and name after name was called, players with much less calibre to Vinny, but eventually at 9 his name was called to the Seattle Bears, a franchise that has had unparalleled success in the past 10-15 seasons. The GM reached out and couldn't believe that he had fallen that far and that they were stoked to have him, and the feelings were mutual as Detroit couldn't be happier to join such a storied franchise. Expectation for Detroit this season are low, he has a long way to go on developing his game in all aspects except physicality, you can expect him to be THE hardest hitting player in the entire league as soon as he plays his first game. Players will learn his name fast and we'll just have to wait and see if the rest of his game can develop accordingly.
